The Role

As a Mainframe Platform Engineer, you will provide expert-level support for IBM Z platforms, including z/OS, z/VM, and Linux on Z. This role ensures platform stability, security, and performance, enabling critical business applications to run seamlessly. You will lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and drive automation initiatives to optimize operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain platform health and availability across z/OS, z/VM, and Linux on Z.

• Lead incident response and root-cause analysis for P1/P2 events.

• Plan and execute patching/compliance cycles, including validation and rollback strategies.

• Perform performance and capacity analysis using SMF/RMF; recommend tuning actions.

• Automate routine tasks using JCL, REXX, and Linux shell scripting; enhance runbooks and self-healing capabilities.

• Coordinate ITIL-based change records, maintenance windows, and stakeholder communications.

• Ensure security hygiene (RACF basics), vulnerability remediation, and compliance with configuration baselines.

• Document standard operating procedures and contribute to knowledge of articles and post-incident reviews.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on support for IBM Z platforms (z/OS, z/VM, Linux on Z) in production environments.

• Proficiency in TSO/ISPF, JCL, JES2/3, SDSF; working knowledge of RACF concepts.

• z/VM operations (CP commands), virtual machine lifecycle; Linux shell scripting on s390x.

• Familiarity with monitoring/automation tools (OMEGAMON, BMC MainView , CA OPS/MVS).

• English proficiency (Intermediate to Advanced) for global communication and documentation.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• IBM z/OS, z/VM, Linux on Z; ITIL Foundation certifications.

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field

• Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware/LPAR, OS, middleware, and network touchpoints.

• Ability to lead RCA discussions and influence cross-functional teams.

• Creative problem-solving and judgment applied to complex technical challenges.
