Backend Engineer

About the Role

**Qualifications**:

- 5+ years of experience working as Backend Developer with Ruby on Rails
- 5+ years of experience working actively with Ruby on Rails in production environments
- Experience integrating EHR systems
- MUST have DevOps experience
- MUST have deep AWS experience
- Highly experienced in English - excellent written and verbal communication skills required
- Able to work 9am-5pm EST
- Provide your own workspace with reliable Internet service
- Passionate about the startup environment and eager to learn
- Strong mentoring and leadership skills
- Ability to quickly adapt, learn, and solve problems
- Team player, willing to jump outside of their role to help the greater team
- Ability to research as you work

Technical Requirements
Core Backend Development
- Build robust APIs for EHR (Electronic Health Record) integrations
- Expertise writing and integrating REST APIs
- Experience with Ruby on Rails 6.1 or newer
- Knowledge of PHI, HIPAA compliance, the FHIR standard for exchanging healthcare information electronically, and the healthcare industry
- Share knowledge of the best software development practices

Database & Infrastructure
- Experience working with Linux OS is a must
- Experience with MySQL is a must
- Experience with PostgreSQL is preferred
- GIT + Github Experience

DevOps & Cloud Services
- Experience working with Docker is preferred
- Experience with Terraform is preferred
- Infrastructure management and monitoring
- Security implementation and compliance management

Testing & Quality Assurance
- Experience with unit testing (rspec) is preferred
- Test-driven development practices
- Code review and quality assurance processes
- Documentation and technical writing

Project Deliverables
Backend Application Maintenance
- Implement new features and optimize existing functionality
- Database schema design and migration management
- Performance monitoring and optimization

EHR Integration Development
- Design and develop APIs for Electronic Health Record integrations
- Implement healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR) compliance
- Build secure data transformation and validation pipelines
- Create comprehensive API documentation and testing suites

AWS Infrastructure & DevOps
- Deploy and manage AWS cloud infrastructure
- Implement CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment
- Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting systems
- Ensure HIPAA compliance and security best practices

Benefits/Compensation
- Fully Remote Position
- Contract-based employment with US company
- Starting at $3,000 - $6,000 depending on qualifications and experience
