Chief Systems Engineer

We are seeking a **Chief Systems Engineer** to lead a team of Support/SRE engineers in managing critical platforms, including Backstage, Grafana, and Kubernetes.

This role combines technical leadership with hands-on involvement, mentoring team members, and driving operational excellence. The position requires participating in a scheduled weekend on-call duty once per month with separate compensation.

**Responsibilities**
- Lead a team of Support/SRE engineers managing Backstage, Grafana, and Kubernetes platforms
- Provide architectural guidance, troubleshooting expertise, and establish best practices
- Ensure system performance, scalability, and reliability through effective management
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align systems with organizational objectives
- Promote SRE principles such as incident management and process improvement
- Ensure observability with Grafana by creating dashboards, configuring alerts, and integrating tools
- Scale and manage Kubernetes environments (e.g., Amazon EKS) to meet performance demands
- Optimize Backstage as a developer portal to enhance usability and reliability
- Define and oversee SLOs, SLIs, and SLAs for system performance and availability
- Automate operational processes to enhance efficiency and reduce manual interventions
- Foster a collaborative, accountability-focused, and learning-oriented team culture
- Monitor industry trends and recommend relevant technology or system enhancements
- Participate in monthly weekend on-call duty with separate compensation

**Requirements**:

- 7+ years of experience in Cloud Operations
- Expertise in managing and customizing Backstage platforms
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring of technical teams
- Knowledge of observability tools (e.g., LGTM stack) for monitoring and alerting
- Proficiency in Kubernetes platforms (e.g., Amazon EKS, OpenShift) and container environments
- Understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, including infrastructure management
- Skills in scripting and automation with tools such as Python or Bash
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible)
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix systems for system-level troubleshooting
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
- Effective communication skills for engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders

**Nice to have**
- Background in managing teams within enterprise-scale or managed services environments
- Familiarity with incident management solutions such as PagerDuty or Opsgenie
- Knowledge of microservices architecture and distributed systems
