Materials Head

**TITLE**: Materials Manager

**FUNCTION**: Responsible for planning, coordinating, scheduling and controlling the procurement and delivery of production materials and finished stock.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Maintain optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries meeting customer requirements while minimizing carrying costs and premium transportation charges.
- Supervise and establish procedures for taking and valuing the year-end physical inventory.
- Monitor maintenance of perpetual inventory system to ensure the highest degree of accuracy throughout the year.
- Direct the write-offs of obsolete and damaged inventory to maintain realistic valuation of goods-on-hand.
- Oversee and ensure proper production control planning and scheduling programs to meet sales forecasts and to balance the level of manpower and machine requirements.
- Maintain proper contact with customers relating to releases and deliveries.
- Coordinate with the purchasing department to schedule delivery of materials, supplies, equipment, and services according to requirements of the company's operations. Investigate and solve problems resulting from material shortages, however caused.
- Develop, establish, and provide for the maintenance of reporting systems that relate to the materials function.
- Keep abreast of new sources of supply to maximize use of just-in-time inventory practices.
- Ensure the company's established procedures are followed in connection with all Materials Department functions.
- Motivate subordinates and develop subordinates’ skills to optimize their performance and their personal and professional growth.
- Responsible for any other special projects as assigned.

**EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED**:

- BS/BA or equivalent
- 5 plus years’ experience in Materials Management in a cellular manufacturing environment
- APICS certification a plus
- Knowledge of current manufacturing methods a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Excellent written and verbal skills
