Lead Database Engineer

We are seeking an experienced **Lead Database Engineer** to spearhead our AWS Cost Optimization team.

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for optimizing data storage, access, and retrieval in AWS environments and leading a team of engineers. As a Lead Database Engineer, your leadership and technical skills will play a critical role in optimizing AWS DB environments for cost-effectiveness and high-level performance while fostering team development and collaboration.

**Responsibilities**
- Oversee and lead a team of database engineers, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure efficiency and effectiveness
- Collaborate with software development and engineering teams to pinpoint optimization opportunities for reducing AWS DB services costs
- Gain comprehensive understanding of client products, their architecture within the cloud, and itemized costs for each environment component
- Define database instance type and usage, engine type, and performance requirements
- Implement right-sizing strategies for database instance and storage
- Enable storage auto-scaling and data caching
- Adjust retention periods and disable multi-AZ when unnecessary
- Manage database region changes as needed
- Supervise the starting and stopping of database engines
- Maximize utilization of reserved instances and opt for savings plans
- Purge unnecessary manual snapshots
- Conduct performance reviews and manage the progress of team members toward achieving set objectives and goals
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment within the team

**Requirements**:

- 5+ years of experience as an AWS Database Engineer or in a similar role
- At least 1 year of leadership experience
- Advanced proficiency in AWS cloud services, including both relational and NoSQL databases
- Deep background in storage systems and distributed systems
- Expertise in database migration software and technologies
- Qualifications in at least one AWS DB (RDS) Service such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MSSQL
- Demonstrated ability to write high-quality functional database code, including stored procedures, functions, triggers, and other code objects
- Proven leadership skills with a track record of successfully managing a technical team
