The Applied ML and Backend Engineer will help build large-scale systems that use large language models and other AI technologies to enable both customers and internal users. In this role you will work cross-functionally with engineers and researchers to integrate ML solutions into Casetext’s legal tech applications.
About the role:
Design and develop robust and scalable back end services and applications that use machine learning solutions (particularly in natural language processing and large language models)
Collaborate cross-functionally with team members at many levels, especially those in Engineering and Innovation
Work independently to maintain ownership over a backend system as well as to identify and address areas for improvement in existing systems and processes
About you:
2-5 years of experience in backend or full-stack software engineering
Very proficient in Python with recent experience
Experience designing data-intensive systems, familiar with relational databases and APIs
Demonstrable ability to write high quality, well documented code and provide code reviews to other engineers
Very comfortable with test-driven development or otherwise writing comprehensive automated tests for any code
Significant experience in communicating with other technical teams, including management, to collect requirements, identify tasks, provide estimates and meet production deadlines
Ideally has worked previously with writing or deploying machine learning models for use in a production setting
Experience working with a cloud service provider like AWS, Azure, or GCP
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math, or a related field.
