Middleware Engineer

A Middleware Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, configuring, deploying, and supporting middleware solutions that enable communication and integration between enterprise applications. The role ensures high availability, scalability, performance, and security of middleware platforms used across the organization. Key Responsibilities 1. Middleware Platform Management Install, configure, upgrade, and patch middleware technologies such as: WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss, Tomcat ESB tools (MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, WSO2 ESB) Manage and maintain application servers, integration platforms, and message brokers. 2. Deployment & Automation Build and deploy applications on middleware platforms. Develop automation scripts using Shell, Python, Ansible, Jenkins for deployment and environment setup. Implement CI/CD pipelines for seamless application integration. 3. Performance & Monitoring Monitor system performance and application health using tools like: Optimize configurations for performance, load, and reliability. 4. Troubleshooting & Support Diagnose and resolve middleware issues across dev, test, and production environments. Perform root‑cause analysis (RCA) for incidents and outages. Support on‑call rotation and production releases. 5. Security & Compliance Implement security best practices (TLS/SSL, authentication, authorization). Manage access control, certificates, and encryption policies. Ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards. Work with architects and developers to design integration solutions. Configure connectors, adapters, APIs, message queues, and integration workflows. Migrate legacy middleware components to modern cloud‑native solutions. Required Skills Technical Skills Strong knowledge of application servers (WebLogic/WebSphere/JBoss/Tomcat). Experience with message‑oriented middleware (Kafka/RabbitMQ/IBM MQ). Strong understanding of REST, SOAP, XML, JSON. Familiarity with Unix/Linux administration. Hands‑on with Git, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes (optional but preferred). Cloud experience (AWS/GCP/Azure) is a strong advantage. Soft Skills Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Good communication and coordination with cross‑functional teams. Ability to work in fast‑paced, high‑availability environments. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field. 4+ years of experience in middleware administration or engineering. Certifications in middleware or cloud platforms are a plus.
