The Sheet Metal Fabrication Engineer provides day-to-day technical engineering support to the fabrication manufacturing shop floor to ensure metal fabrication processes are operating optimally and meeting customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities General
  • Create and update manufacturing procedures to maximize process efficiency (shop floor layout, workflow, and assembly methods).
  • Provide engineering support to the shop floor for troubleshooting and resolving product and process-related issues.
  • Define and implement manufacturing cost reduction and product improvement projects as part of a continuous improvement methodology.
  • Evaluate and coordinate manufacturing process improvements (product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, quality control).
  • Support the review of New Product Introduction engineering documentation (prints, process instructions) to ensure compliance with manufacturability, quality, cost, operating specifications, and customer and company standards.
  • Evaluate and coordinate the purchase of new equipment based on operation requirements.
  • Provide guidelines to technicians and trainers in interpreting drawings and fabrication requirements.
  • Provide daily follow-up to manufacturing problems and initiate RCA to address key area metrics.
  • Design and coordinate the build of fixtures required for the process.
  • Collaborate with training and production departments to develop, coordinate, and implement technical training for employees.
  • Estimate production times, personnel requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Support the identification of training needs for supporting technical personnel.
Cutting Processes
  • Coordinate the support for purchase, maintenance, and care of thick turret tooling.
  • Establish and monitor systems to control the use and purchase of gas for laser processes.
  • Coordinate the support for purchase and care of bending and PEM insertion tooling.
  • Establish and monitor systems to control the use and purchase of gas for welding processes.
  • Coordinate the support of creation/validation of bending/PEM machine programs.
Paint Processes
  • Coordinate activities to ensure all process parameters in the paint system are within controls.
  • Establish and monitor systems to control the use and purchase of chemicals for pre-treatment and water treatment systems.
  • Analyze, monitor, and make decisions based on results of temperature profiles of the paint ovens.
Education
  • Mechanical or Electronics engineering degree or equivalent combination of engineering degree.
  • Minimum 6 years of sheet metal operation experience.
  • English conversational level.
Experiences
  • Ability to identify potential process problems caused by engineering drawings/specifications errors and implement effective alternatives.
  • Proven experience leading high-impact DMAIC methodology projects with proven cost savings. Green belt certified.
  • Proven experience applying lean manufacturing tools. Certification or classes.
  • Ability to interpret and adapt to technical information in fluent English conversation.
  • Demonstrates creative thinking when applying methodical analytical skills for problem-solving.
  • Ability to coordinate groups to design fixtures and tools with a mistake-proofing approach.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with different organizational levels.
  • Ability to independently work on complex problems with no guidance and make innovative recommendations.
  • Basic understanding of the complete fabrication process (punching/bending/paint).
  • Strong interpersonal skills (verbal/non-verbal, negotiation, presentation). Proven experience leading a group of technicians.
