Lead Software Engineer

Key Responsibilities As a Lead Software Engineer, you will: Horizontally scalable microservices written mostly in Clojure, using Finagle and leveraging upon functional programming techniques and hexagonal architecture High throughput jobs and inter-service communication using Kafka Continuous Integration and Deployment into AWS Storing data in Datomic and DynamoDB Monitoring and observability with Prometheus Running as much as possible in Kubernetes Manage projects or processes independently, with timely managerial support, ensuring successful execution and delivery. Address difficult, complex, and ambiguous problems that require coordination across various subjects and stakeholders. Take ownership of solutions spanning multiple teams and business units, necessitating collaborative efforts and sophisticated problem-solving. Develop and deliver innovative solutions that address team-level or project-level challenges , focusing on medium-term impact . Actively participate in cross-functional collaborations and begin to set technical standards within your project or team, inspiring peers to elevate their performance. Contribute significantly to the function's growth and development , including mandatory activities like hiring and recommended taskforce participation, demonstrating leadership and mentorship. Exhibit strong leadership skills , confidently leading complex projects with ambiguity and requiring strategic thinking. Lead complex and challenging projects, often with cross-functional teams and significant impact. Potentially lead a pack, squad, or process , providing mentorship and guidance to team members. Communicate complex messages clearly and persuasively , ensuring understanding and facilitating idea exchange while adapting your communication style to various environments and stakeholders. Analyze moderately complex issues with some autonomy, uncover root causes to moderately difficult problems, and develop effective solutions while seeking feedback and guidance as needed. Participate in the development of plans to mitigate business disruptions, with some autonomy. Plan, execute, and lead projects at the team level, or be a key contributor to them. Provide technical guidance within the team, anticipating technical and product issues and making appropriate design decisions to prevent them. Influence business prioritization and peers outside your team to drive the evolution of Nubank's technical landscape, ensuring the adoption of canonical approaches. Possess deep technical and domain expertise on the systems and business context of your team, consistently reducing the complexity of projects, systems, and processes. Basic Qualifications Typically 6+ years of experience in software engineering with a strong track record of leading projects and processes independently. Proven ability to address difficult, complex, and ambiguous problems requiring coordination across multiple subjects and stakeholders. Experience owning solutions that span several teams and business units, demonstrating strong collaborative problem-solving skills. Demonstrated success in developing and delivering innovative solutions with medium-term impact at a team or project level. Experience in cross-functional collaboration and beginning to set technical standards. Active participation in hiring and mentorship activities within a technical function. Strong technical leadership skills, with experience leading complex projects. Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex messages clearly and persuasively. Intermediate problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and solution development for moderately complex issues. Solid business acumen, with an understanding of organizational strategy and business drivers. Experience in change management, including identifying opportunities, facilitating discussions, and implementing interventions. Expertise in software development, including leading team-level projects, providing technical guidance, and influencing technical direction. Preferred Qualifications Experience leading a pack, squad, or similar team structure. Demonstrated ability to reduce complexity in projects, systems, and processes. Proven ability to influence business prioritization through technical insight. Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
