Our destination.**- **Mission**:- **Profile**:- **Responsibilities and Specific Duties**- Demonstrate a **“Safety First”** attitude in all tasks.- Inspect, diagnose, repair, and replace components on heavy-duty vehicles, including brake systems, fuel/emission systems, driveline, steering, suspension, and HVAC systems.- Perform routine preventive maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and battery maintenance.- Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical systems, including ADA equipment, air conditioning, brakes, chassis, cooling systems, engines, lighting, gauges, and safety equipment.- Utilize diagnostic tools and software (e.g., Cummins Insite, Allison DOC) for accurate troubleshooting.- Operate hand tools, power tools, and hoists safely and effectively.- Maintain accurate electronic repair orders and service records.- Conduct test drives and operational checks to ensure proper functionality.- Perform minor fabrication, welding, grinding, and soldering as needed.- Respond to service calls and assist in training lower-level personnel.- Backfill supervisory duties when required.- Other related duties as assigned.** Competencies**- ** Accuracy & Detail Orientation**: Ability to perform work thoroughly and precisely.- **Safety Awareness**: Identify and correct unsafe conditions.- **Integrity & Professionalism**: Maintain confidentiality and credibility.- **Customer Focus**: Deliver high-quality service to internal and external customers.- **Problem-Solving**: Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting technical issues.- **Teamwork**: Work cohesively in a team environment.** Education & Experience**- High school diploma or GED required.- Minimum 1-2 years of vocational/technical schooling or equivalent experience.- **Preferred**:- One year of progressive heavy equipment maintenance experience.- Two years technical degree or equivalent experience.- Must hold and maintain **ASE Truck or Transit Bus certifications** and **EPA 608/609 Air Conditioning Certification**.- Three years of verifiable experience in heavy-duty diesel bus or truck maintenance preferred.** Additional Requirements**- Must provide own hand tools.- Pass DOT physical, drug screening, and background check.- No criminal convictions (DWI, DUI, assault, controlled substances) within the last 5 years.- Ability to work flexible hours in a 24/7 environment.- Must be able to read and follow schematics.** Physical Requirements**- Ability to lift heavy components and work in various positions.- Comfortable working with in-ground and above-ground hoists.** Certifications**- ASE Certification (required).- EPA 608/609 Air Conditioning Certification (required).**Pay:27.00 per hour**- **Benefits**- **We offer competitive compensation and benefits (which vary based on role, location, and business), including medical/dental/vision, 401(k), and paid holiday/vacation.**- **We are an Equal Opportunity Employer & We Welcome Diversity to our Teams**- **A message from the General Manager**:- The City of Santa Maria operates fixed route and ADA paratransit bus service known as Santa Maria Regional Transit (SMRT).
