Manufacturing Section Supervisor

Lead manufacturing activities to achieve efficient operations directing and supervising the performance of individuals and team of associates who put together components to make assemblies or process raw materials into finished products in an industrial environment in order to exceed Quality, Cost, Delivery, Morale and Safety goals.
Major Responsibilities and Tasks- Lead manufacturing activities to achieve efficient operations.
- Productivity Analysis and Improvement Plans.
- Implement, update, and maintain Flex Staffing Model (where applicable).
- Ensure staff capacity and equipment according to demand.
- Maintain up-to-date capacity levels in SAP in agreement with the S&OP requirements and actual order entry.
- Support Value Stream Map creation and maintenance.
- Lead daily Core Team meetings.
- Guide the core team to meet and exceed business unit goals and metrics.
- Maintain close surveillance over manufacturing activities through reports, meetings, and continuous feedback.
- Ensure data-driven efficient utilization and achievement of budget, personnel, equipment, and facilities.
- Manage VOH, FOH, and materials cost.
- Stretch cost target goals.
- Revise and improve profit and loss statements to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in Product Line Team meetings and weekly meetings.
- Conduct Performance Review of Operations meetings.
- Develop coaching plans for other Supervisors to help them understand their role in achieving QCDMS metrics.
- Lead and participate with the team for corrective and preventive actions resolution within the allotted timeframe.
- Support projects for cost reduction and area initiatives.
- Assist in the preparation of executive and staff presentations (participate when applicable).
- Focus on delivering changes through people development and management.
- Accomplish manufacturing results by coordinating and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
- Complete production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems; reporting results of processing flow on shift production summaries.
- Maintain updated manufacturing information.
- Drive improvements and maintain a safe culture and clean work environment in compliance with established policies, procedures, 5’s culture, and safety.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; internal benchmarking.
- Manage vacations and attendance for direct reports.
- Point of contact for new product/process introductions to ensure safety, ergonomics, 5’s, and productivity goals are met.
- Lead and participate in TPM and Lean activities.
- Assure the certification and training of all personnel assigned.
- Coordinate monthly PSA inventories activities, keeping track of discrepancies of PSA inventories (SAP).
- Participate in TL9000 and ISO 14000 audits to maintain certification.
- Contribute to corrective and preventive actions documentation, implementation, and execution.
Internal: Quality department, Engineering department, PEx/Lean department, Supply Chain department, Other production lines (where applicable).
External: Demand Planners, Product Line Management, Product Development department, Operators, Data Collectors, Material Handlers.
Minimum Knowledge and Skill Requirements A. Education- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
- 5 years of experience in the manufacturing field.
- 3 or more years of experience in leading and/or supervising personnel.
- Proficient in English and Spanish.
- Understanding and experience of Lean Manufacturing and Value Stream Mapping.
- Knowledge of Quality Systems and TPM.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Dynamic and able to manage multiple activities and prioritize.
- Strong leadership skills to effectively manage cross-functional teams.
Contribute and participate in Internal and External Audits in the department, being responsible for the good results of such. Some examples of audits are: ISO, TL, 5's, Safety, Sarbox, among others.
Facilitate and direct daily production activities to ensure control and compliance with established process control and operating procedures. Achieve plant requirements for safety, quality, delivery, selects, uptime, throughput, and cost.
- Schedule resources and prioritize activities to assure efficient production schedule compliance to include product changeovers, upgrades, experiments, new product runs, training, and maintenance activities.
- Provide daily direction to production and maintenance employees, team leaders, technicians, and engineers on established procedures and policies.
- Communicate and report production and process performance metrics to production teams, plant operations staff, and functional leaders. Ensure that production targets and delivery requirements are met on a daily and weekly basis.
- Engage with plant teams and functional groups responsible for identifying and implementing process improvements and cost reduction projects.
- Perform performance reviews and develop and reinforce career and talent development plans for salaried/indirect labor and hourly/direct labor employees.
- Ensure the production process operates in compliance with established process control set-points and operating procedures. Enforce process discipline and rigorous change control.
- Ensure the protection of Corning's Intellectual Property (IP).
- Develop, implement, and monitor training, qualification, certification, and development programs for new and experienced operators, team leaders, and engineers.
- Facilitate and monitor all process/equipment changes and experimental plans involving the production process, including process improvement, new product trial runs, equipment/tooling redesign, raw material, batch, and/or component changes.
