The partnership between GGGI and the Government of Mexico has produced several key results to date. In the coming years, GGGI will continue to catalyze resource mobilization to bridge the significant climate finance gap and promote technical advisory in sustainable landscapes, sustainable finance (related to green and climate investments), climate action (such as NDC planning and implementation, inclusive green growth plans, MRV system design) and green infrastructure solutions. POSITION SUMMARY Based in Mexico City, the Traceability Senior Associate will report to the Sustainable Landscapes Coordinator. The position will be responsible for delivering technical inputs that trigger sustainable agrifood transformation. Specifically, supporting the design and implementation of zero‑deforestation and sustainable commodity traceability initiatives, strengthening transparency, accountability, and climate‑positive outcomes across value chains. This role provides technical expertise in the use of geospatial analysis (GIS), digital platforms, and traceability systems, integrating spatial and non‑spatial data to monitor land‑use change, assess deforestation risks, and support robust monitoring, reporting, and verification processes to enhance transparency. Leveraging emerging digital technologies—including, where relevant, artificial intelligence and data analytics—the position contributes to evidence‑based decision‑making, policy support, and scalable solutions that advance green growth, climate action, and resilient supply chains in Mexico. He/she will be responsible for supporting the implementation of various projects working closely with federal government agencies, subnational governments, development banks, the private sector, and international organizations. The position will also collaborate in capacity building activities and carry out technical analyses. PURPOSE The Traceability Senior Associate is responsible for generating technical inputs for the development and enhancement of traceability platforms, georeferenced datasets, land‑use planning and management tools to support evidence‑based decision‑making and provide policy support to GGGI’s counterparts across multiple workstreams of the Mexico program, from proposal development to delivery. The Senior Associate plays a critical role in addressing integrated climate change planning activities particularly in the design, development, and operation of traceability and monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems. ENGAGEMENT Work closely with national and subnational counterparts to acquire information/knowledge and to build cooperative relationships and support GGGI’s recognition as an effective partner for policy delivery. Contribute to the articulation and sustainment of GGGI´s engagement with various federal and subnational government agencies, national development banks (e.g. FIRA), private sector and NGOs. Support coordination with federal and subnational counterparts to map and operationalize state‑level regulatory differences relevant to land‑use change and deforestation of risk management mechanisms. Building and leveraging collaboration with and resources from international organizations, partnerships, and platforms as well as research institutions to support project implementation. Coordinate closely with the Mexico Program team as needed to build and enable complementary capabilities, as well as guarantee the achievement and delivery of high‑quality products to government and private sector partners towards attaining the desired impact and goals. Supporting stakeholder engagement, visioning exercises, consultations, and other activities necessary to formulate systems, strategies, and relevant policy documents. DELIVERY The Traceability Senior Associate is responsible for supporting and, in some cases, guiding technical assistance activities. The position will, mainly but not limitingly, be directly in charge of: Support the design and implementation of zero‑deforestation and sustainable commodity traceability initiatives. Provide technical expertise in the use of geospatial analysis (GIS), digital platforms, and traceability systems, integrating spatial and non‑spatial data to monitor land‑use change, assess deforestation risks, and support robust monitoring, reporting, and verification processes to enhance transparency. Contribute evidence‑based decision‑making, policy support, and scalable solutions through the design and use of emerging digital technologies and data analytics, including where relevant, artificial intelligence. Undertake data collection and perform technical analyses to inform the design, enhancement and implementation of deforestation‑free production systems and traceability platforms working jointly with agri‑business, government counterparts and value‑chain stakeholders. Contribute to the development of funding and technical project proposals using a logical framework, under the guidance of the Sustainable Landscapes Lead. Contribute to the implementation of programs, projects, capacity building activities and development of technical analyses on deforestation‑free production and traceability mechanisms, promotion of regenerative practices, integrated soil and crop management, low‑methane livestock production, among others. Define data workflows for traceability and MRV systems (data collection protocols, ETL/processing, QA/QC checks, documentation, and version control practices). Develop and maintain clear reporting products (e.g., dashboards, maps, and briefings) tailored to technical and non‑technical stakeholders to enable decision‑making and transparency. Deliver traceability and MRV implementation support with priority stakeholders and counterparts, including deforestation‑risk screening, minimum data requirements, verification workflow, and QA/QC guidance for auditable results. Support the design and implementation of specific projects, and carry out good project management practices, including budgeting, project monitoring and evaluation. Apply technical skills to prepare rigorous analyses and briefing notes, concept notes and analytical reports to support GGGI Mexico’s engagement with diverse technical and general stakeholder audiences. Participate in any other relevant activities deemed necessary for the development of GGGI’s Mexico program, including review of technical deliverables, monitoring and reporting of project activities to ensure effective and timely implementation of project’s portfolio progress (monthly, semi‑annual and annual). Understand GGGI’s project implementation cycle and organize work to ensure project outputs and deliverables are completed on time. Facilitate internal and external communications, including capturing lessons learned in project management to support refinement/improvement of existing policies and procedures. QUALIFICATIONS Mexican nationals or holding a valid working visa. (REQUIRED) A Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as computer science, geomatics, data science, environmental engineering, geography, environmental sciences, or similar. (DESIRED) A Master’s degree in relevant fields such as environmental science, spatial analysis, geomatics, or similar. (REQUIRED) At least 4‑5 years of technical knowledge in traceability mechanisms, spatial analysis, MRV systems (monitoring, reporting, and verification), or private/public compliance reporting schemes. Experience with GHG measurement and accounting is highly desirable. (REQUIRED) At least 2‑3 years of experience in spatial analysis, data collection, processing, QA/QC, and reporting. (REQUIRED) Flexibility to travel inside the country. (REQUIRED) Experience working with government institutions (national or subnational) and multi‑stakeholder relations is an asset. (DESIRED) At least 2‑3 years of relevant experience in Mexico. (DESIRED) Technical knowledge in deforestation‑free production and traceability mechanisms, low‑methane livestock production, and/or technologies for sustainable agriculture. (DESIRED) Experience developing stakeholder‑facing dashboards and visual products (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker Studio) to communicate traceability/MRV insights. (DESIRED) Experience in the use of artificial intelligence and emerging digital technologies. (DESIRED) Experience with GIS and remote sensing software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS, Google Earth Engine) is a plus. (DESIRED) Ability to work with SQL and structured datasets. (REQUIRED) Excellent verbal and written fluency in English and Spanish. WORKING CONDITIONS The Traceability Senior Associate is an X7 grade level in GGGI’s Mexico salary scale. The salary range for the position starts at USD 32,096 per annum, depending on candidate's experience, academic background, and internal equity. GGGI provides 15% of base salary towards retirement plan/long‑term savings, 27 days of annual leave, and private health insurance that covers dental.
