Chief Data Engineer

We are seeking an experienced **Chief Data Engineer**to join our team.In this role, you will oversee the technical direction for NoSQL-related initiatives, evaluate database platform technologies, and provide expert guidance based on business needs. You will work closely with the engineering team to establish best practices and deliver scalable, high-performance database solutions across both cloud and on-premise environments.**Responsibilities**- Lead the design and implementation of scalable and resilient architectures for NoSQL database technologies in cloud and on-premise environments- Enhance database performance through tuning and troubleshooting, offering expert recommendations and resolving production issues through root cause analysis across the architecture stack- Develop and enforce best practices for database operations to ensure reliability and efficiency- Define SLA, SLO, and build SLI dashboards to monitor service-level performance and observability- Research and assess emerging Cassandra and NoSQL technologies, lead proof-of-concept projects, and provide detailed risk evaluations and insights- Manage database growth, plan capacity, and oversee the lifecycle of current open-source database platforms**Requirements**:- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline- At least 7 years of experience as a Data Engineer- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a leadership or team management position- Deep expertise in NoSQL database systems and architecture design, with domain knowledge in at least two technologies such as Cassandra, ScyllaDB, DynamoDB, or MongoDB- Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools like Ansible or Terraform to streamline complex administrative processes- Hands-on experience with AWS database solutions and related ecosystems, including EC2, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, AMI, Security Groups, and VPC/Subnet/Route53 concepts- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Django, or Go for software and data engineering tasks- Strong experience with version control systems like Git for collaboration and code management- Comprehensive knowledge of data storage technologies, including relational and NoSQL databases, high availability, replication/sharding, disaster recovery solutions, and database observability using metrics, dashboards, and alerts- Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken, at a B2 level or higher**Nice to have**- Certifications in AWS or NoSQL database platforms to validate expertise in cloud and database technologies**We offer**- Career plan and real growth opportunities- Unlimited access to LinkedIn learning solutions- International Mobility Plan within 25 countries- Constant training, mentoring, online corporate courses, eLearning and more- English classes with a certified teacher- Support for employee’s initiatives (Algorithms club, toastmasters, agile club and more)- Enjoyable working environment (Gaming room, napping area, amenities, events, sport teams and more)- Flexible work schedule and dress code- Collaborate in a multicultural environment and share best practices from around the globe- Hired directly by EPAM & 100% under payroll- Law benefits (IMSS, INFONAVIT, 25% vacation bonus)- Major medical expenses insurance: Life, Major medical expenses with dental & visual coverage (for the employee and direct family members)- 13 % employee savings fund, capped to the law limit- Grocery coupons- 30 days December bonus- Employee Stock Purchase Plan- 12 vacations days plus 4 floating days- Official Mexican holidays, plus 5 extra holidays (Maundry Thursday and Friday, November 2nd, December 24th & 31st)- Monthly non-taxable amount for the electricity and internet billsEPAM is a leading global provider of digital platform engineering and development services.
