Job Summary

The Strategy Function Group Manager is responsible for leading multiple teams of senior professionals through other senior managers. This role requires a broad and comprehensive understanding of different systems, theories, and practices relevant to the function, as well as practical experience of multiple business cycles.

The job requires in-depth knowledge of the industry and direct competitors' products/services to contribute to the commercial objectives of the business. The Strategy Function Group Manager must have a thorough understanding of the strategic direction of the function within the business, combined with a solid conceptual/practical grounding in both the function and/or area of expertise.

Excellent communication skills are required to influence a wide range of audiences. The job is likely to be involved in both internal and external negotiations, which will have a major impact on the area managed, and possibly on other related areas and the organization as a whole.

The Strategy Function Group Manager develops medium- to long-term plans and executes functional strategies for a large/complex country, cluster of countries, or business, requiring coordination and integration across units. They provide input into strategic decisions affecting the job family or function within a region or business.

Full management responsibility of multiple teams, including management of people, budget, and planning. The Strategy Function Group Manager has authority to negotiate and make independent decisions on issues/activities that have critical impact or influence on company revenues, capital, or business operations.

Typically, a direct report to an Executive Board role and sits on the highest functional leadership team within a region, job function, or global business.

Responsibilities
  • Drive strategic initiatives and new business development opportunities.
  • Lead corporate strategy initiatives around growth, investments, capital, and expense optimization.
  • Guide analysis of our markets, competitors, and customers using internal and external resources.
  • Lead organic growth initiative development and prioritization, and portfolio assessment.
  • Advise Citi's senior management on high-priority initiatives, including growth strategy, product, and segment strategies, and cross-business initiatives.
  • Support performance measurement and management, ranging from strategic franchise development scorecards to project/function-specific metrics.
  • Lead communications with key internals (e.g., Citi executive leadership and Board) and external stakeholders (e.g., investor community, regulators).
  • Actively recruit and develop team members and encourage internal mobility opportunities.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct, and business practices, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervising the activity of others and creating accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
Qualifications
  • 15+ years of experience in strategy development and execution.
  • Experience with a major consulting firm, including senior engagement management roles with client assignments of significant scope in consumer financial services.
  • Demonstrates clear understanding of the drivers of performance and decision-making to maximize results.
  • Strategic thinker with proven ability to operationalize the strategy.
  • Robust problem-solving skills.
  • Communication skills and ability to influence others and deliver clearly articulate presentations to senior leaders.
  • Ability to lead and direct a team of knowledge professionals.
Education

Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent experience, potentially Master's degree.
