Assistant Chief Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Chief Engineer to join our team at Marriott International. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for assisting the department head in managing the budget, capital expenditures, and preventative maintenance programs.
Key Responsibilities- Supporting Management of Property Operations
- Supervise the distribution of repair work orders to ensure timely and efficient completion.
- Ensure that property policies are administered fairly and consistently.
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance.
- Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with employees to foster a positive and productive work environment.
- Monitor the timeliness and quality of completion of repair work orders to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Supervise engineering and related areas in the absence of the Director of Engineering.
- Assist in managing the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical, and life safety systems.
- Ensure regular on-going communication with employees to create awareness of business objectives, communicate expectations, and recognize performance.
- Recommend or arrange for additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment.
- Select and order or purchase new equipment, supplies, and furnishings to maintain a high level of guest satisfaction.
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of engineering and related departments.
- Maintaining Property Standards
- Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities to determine the type of work required.
- Maintain accurate logs and records as required.
- Operate generators and fire pumps as necessary to ensure guest safety and comfort.
- Provide emergency response services 24/7 to address any issues that may arise.
- Repair equipment (e.g., refrigeration, laundry) as necessary to minimize downtime and optimize guest satisfaction.
- Ensure that all employees have the proper supplies, equipment, and uniforms to perform their duties effectively.
- Ensuring Exceptional Customer Service
- Empower employees to provide excellent customer service by setting a positive example and promoting a culture of guest satisfaction.
- Emphasize guest satisfaction during all departmental meetings and focus on continuous improvement to exceed guest expectations.
- Conducting Human Resources Activities
- Help train employees in safety procedures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
- Support a departmental orientation program for employees to receive the appropriate new hire training to successfully perform their job.
- Communicate performance expectations in accordance with job descriptions for each position.
- Ensure disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to Standard and Local Operating Procedures (SOPs and LSOPs) and support the Peer Review Process.
- Assist as needed in the interviewing and hiring of employee team members with the appropriate skills.
- Participate in the employee performance appraisal process, providing feedback as needed.
- Use all available on-the-job training tools for employees to ensure they have the necessary skills to perform their duties effectively.
- Solicit employee feedback to identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance the work environment.
- Supervise staffing levels to ensure that guest service, operational needs, and financial objectives are met.
