Data Architect Job Description

A Data Architect at CEMEX designs and implements end-to-end data architecture solutions to support business goals. Their responsibilities include determining strategic data requirements, creating high-level designs, and ensuring alignment with business objectives.

They design data solutions, analyze structural requirements, migrate data, and create conceptual and logical data models, mainly on cloud solutions.

A Data Architect is responsible for designing data infrastructure to extract and understand data governance, privacy, and security practices.

Main Responsibilities

  • Data Modeling: Proficiency in designing and creating data models (conceptual, logical, and physical) to represent business requirements and ensure efficient data storage and retrieval.
  • Database Management: Expertise in managing databases, including selecting appropriate database systems (e.g., Snowflake, SQL Azure, relational, NoSQL), optimizing performance, and ensuring data integrity.
  • ETL (Extract, Transform, Load): Knowledge of ETL processes to extract data from various sources, transform it, and load it into data warehouses or other storage systems.
  • Cloud Platforms: Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, Google Cloud) and understanding of cloud-based data solutions.
  • Programming Languages: Proficiency in languages like SQL, Python, or Java for data manipulation, scripting, and automation.
  • Data Governance and Security: Understanding of data governance practices, privacy regulations, and security measures to protect sensitive information.
  • Business Acumen: Ability to align data architecture with business goals, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Position Challenges

  • Manage and coordinate several teams from different countries, cultures, backgrounds, and expectations.
  • Maintain a constantly evolving data architecture end-to-end.

Qualifications

  • Fluent English.
  • Academic Background: Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar.
  • +1 year of data architecture or similar experience.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in data architecture.
  • Areas of expertise: Data-Driven, Process & IT, Analytics, Digital Tools.
  • Technical skills essential for this role include proficiency in software for data collection and presentation, proficiency in SQL, Python, or Java for data manipulation, adeptness in articulating data-driven decisions, proficiency in summarizing and presenting data, and staying abreast of the latest innovations and trends in the market pertaining to data manipulation products and services. SQL is a must.
  • Soft Skills: Self-motivated, highly engaged, problem-solving, motivated for digital technology, managing uncertainty, critical thinking, time management of projects and relationships.
