Position Title: Senior Commodity Buyer for Steering & Suspension Finished Goods
Department: Purchasing
Direct Supervisor: Purchasing Manager for Steering & Suspension Finished Goods
Primary Responsibilities:
The Senior Commodity Buyer will report directly to the Purchasing Manager and serve as the key support for the Manager by preparing essential documentation for supplier engagements and negotiations, as well as creating presentations for management regarding sourcing initiatives and project rollouts. The annual expenditure will fluctuate based on the commodity. This role is crucial for driving the processes and analysis related to Request for Quote (RFQ) and Request for Information (RFI), managing projects, and maintaining purchasing data within SAP and other IT systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Manager in formulating commodity strategies, sourcing efforts, and project execution.
- Conduct research on materials and suppliers to develop expertise in the supported commodity.
- Prepare necessary documentation for supplier meetings or negotiations.
- Create presentations for management concerning sourcing events.
- Attend meetings as needed to support or represent the Manager.
- Prepare and distribute RFQs and RFIs for commodity projects.
- Maintain ongoing communication with suppliers to ensure RFQ timelines are adhered to.
- Serve as a liaison between suppliers and engineering/operations/marketing to address any inquiries related to RFQ documents.
- Conduct financial analyses of RFQ outcomes to assess overall cost competitiveness.
- Provide sourcing recommendations based on RFI and RFQ results.
- Review blocked invoices and resolve discrepancies concerning price or quantity differences.
- Ensure that invoice issues do not negatively impact supplier relationships.
- Identify opportunities to enhance the invoice process between suppliers and accounts payable to minimize the number of blocked invoices.
Additional Requirements:
- Authority to initiate actions to prevent occurrences of non-conformities related to products, processes, and quality systems, including the ability to halt work on non-conforming products until issues are resolved.
- Compliance with the location's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) policies, legal requirements, and operational controls established under its Environmental Management System, while striving to achieve set objectives and targets.
- Capability to provide additional support as requested by the supervisor.
- Willingness to travel internationally.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Materials Management, or Logistics is required.
- CPIM certification is advantageous.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in Purchasing, Procurement, or a related field in Materials Management, preferably in high-volume manufacturing industries.
- Proven experience with RFQ processes, data analysis, and commodity support.
- Experience working with and leading a global team to achieve significant savings for the organization.
- Strong interpersonal and English communication skills; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
