Responsible for implementing and monitoring corporate and local programs and policies that lead to the food safety and quality of all manufactured products.
Key Responsibilities:- Hire, train, and supervise the plant QA staff, managing QA staff hours and responsibilities.
- Ensure adequate staffing on all shifts to meet objectives of the food safety and quality systems.
- Maintain records of monitoring to verify processes and products continuously meet program and policy requirements.
- Implement processes of record review, process verification and validation, facility inspection, and others to ensure the facility is always prepared for internal, external, and regulatory audits.
- Validate effective process controls and prerequisite programs.
- Coordinate Mock Recall and Food Defense assessments.
- Write, review, and revise facility SOPs to align with corporate objectives.
- Update Food Safety and Quality Plans as needed.
- Conduct SQF verification activities ensuring policies, pre-requisite programs, and SOPs are followed.
- Assist Research & Development in commercialization of new products and monitoring of new product launches.
- Participate in facility leadership team meetings providing quality data and technical perspective.
- Work with corporate Technical Directors and Operations management to create a study plan for facility process improvements.
- Present the facility's food safety and compliance records and programs to regulatory agents, internal auditors, and external auditors including SQF and customers.
- Provide the Platform Quality Director with detailed facility updates including monthly reports.
- Participate in efforts of Continuous Improvement in quality and food safety at the facility.
- Manage budget of the department.
- B.S. in Food Science/Technology, Microbiology or related field or a minimum of 8 years in a progressive quality assurance or equivalent position is required.
- 3+ years in a supervisory position in a food business or related field.
- Ability to communicate clearly with all levels of co-workers and management to express complex ideas and situations concisely in written, verbal, and electronic modes.
- HACCP and PCQI certifications are required; SQF and Internal Auditor certifications are preferred.
- Food processing, warehouse, and food laboratory environment.
- The environment may be wet or dry and temperatures may range from 25°F to 110°F.
- Exposure to hazardous materials.
- Ability to climb ladders, bend, reach, and occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. may be required.
This position is eligible for a bonus based on company goals/performance.
