Job Summary

BorgWarner is seeking a highly skilled Regional Supplier Development Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our supply chain organization, you will be responsible for developing and launching new products, suppliers, and technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supplier Development: Implement the BorgWarner Supplier Development Process in the area of responsibility, supporting both regional and global needs in screening suppliers, program launch requirements (APQP), and series delivery.
  • Quality Management: Develop and maintain quality system expectations, update and control suppliers' conformance to IATF 16949, as required.
  • Audit and Compliance: Conduct regular audits and special surveys at suppliers' facilities and manufacturing processes to determine adequacy and capability of quality control and ability to comply with complete quality specifications.
  • APQP and Project Management: Lead APQP process as part of new product introduction, drive performance improvements to the established objectives at suppliers, and prepare relevant periodic reports.
  • Supplier Performance Improvement: Develop and implement quality initiatives to improve cost, reduce PPM's, CPM's, and improve 8D response times.
  • Technical Problem Resolution: Review quality problems with Engineering personnel and coordinate cross-functional technical problem resolution at supplier.
  • Escalation Management: If necessary, apply escalation management process together with BU and RU representatives from Purchasing and Supplier Quality.
  • Training and Development: Provide and train standards for supplier quality and continuous improvement activities at the supply base, applying established procedures, lessons learned, and best practices.
  • Supplier Capacity and Capability Assessment: Analyze suppliers' and sub-suppliers' capacities and drive improvements when necessary to meet the needs of BW production requirements.
  • New Supplier Assessment: Visit potential new suppliers to assess their quality systems and production capabilities.
  • Commodity Strategy: Provide input to commodity strategy.
  • Supply Base Management: Maintain and report summary status of suppliers with the supply base relative to delivery, capacity, capability, quality, and other criteria required to properly assess the ongoing capability of the supply base.
Requirements
  • Education: Industrial, Electronic, Mechanic engineering degree or similar.
  • Language Skills: Fluent in both written and oral English; multi-linguistic as a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Able to use Microsoft Office tools and SAP.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedures, and manuals.
  • Teamwork and Leadership: Experience working effectively in global teams, multiple cultures, and languages.
  • Presentation Skills: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, suppliers, clients, customers, and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications: C.Q.E. Certified Quality Engineer or national equivalent is a preferred certification.
  • Auditor Certification: Certified VDA 6.3 auditor or equivalent desirable.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, or Shainin.
  • Customer Specific Requirements: Expertise in Customer Specific Requirements.
  • APQP and Quality Files: APQP and quality files.
  • New Supplier Selection: New supplier selection.
  • Supplier Metrics: Supplier metrics.
  • Project Support: Support project milestones.
  • Current Supplier Audits: Current supplier audits.
  • Critical Supplier Development: Development and improvement of critical suppliers.
  • Statistical Analysis: Minitab.
  • Core Documents: Core Documents.
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing: GD&T.
  • Audit Certification: Audit Certification (VDA, IATF).
