Railroad Operations Specialist

Job Summary
This position is responsible for maintaining communication with the Maintenance of Way (MLU) and National Operations Center (NOC) to ensure the efficient movement of trains. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the placement or removal of end train devices, monitoring arrival times, and troubleshooting locomotive issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Makes decisions regarding locomotive and train movements to prevent delays and ensure safe operations.
- Troubleshoots and resets locomotive issues, including air brakes.
- Performs minor locomotive repairs and links/unlinks Distributed Power (DP) locomotives.
- Coordinates the addition or removal of locomotives to trains in Leal, in collaboration with NOC/MLU.
- Assists with extraordinary train movements and locomotive failures.
- Ensures compliance with operational and safety rules to prevent injuries and accidents.
- Develops and implements effective tactics to sustain a culture of operational excellence.
- Identifies and addresses non-compliance with rules and regulations, using KCS Candor and other communication tools.
- Provides feedback and coaching to team members to improve performance.
- Develops and retains a strong team of high performers, creating a challenging and rewarding work environment.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant operations experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Specialist knowledge of one or more disciplines of railroad operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
Working Conditions
- Shift work is an essential function of this job, requiring the ability to work various shifts, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays.
- On-call responsibilities are also an essential function of this job, requiring the ability to support operations 24/7.
- This position may require minimal travel up to 10% of the time.
