The Welcoming Communities Program Officer will play a crucial role in fostering a culture of acceptance and inclusivity in Mexico. This position will be responsible for coordinating and implementing activities that promote the development of welcoming communities, with a focus on refugee and migrant populations.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and consolidate activities related to the student committee network, ensuring effective collaboration and communication among stakeholders.
- Develop and implement a strategy to raise awareness among local communities about the importance of fostering welcoming communities through student committees.
- Strengthen the financial sustainability of student committees, enabling them to effectively support refugee and migrant populations.
- Provide information on the participation of university students in student committees, highlighting their contributions to community development.
- Establish and maintain institutional channels of communication with academic points of contact, ensuring seamless collaboration and information sharing.
- Support the capacity building of social service providers to undertake complementary activities for refugee students in their communities.
- Compile and draft content for social media regarding program activities, in collaboration with the communications team.
- Facilitate communication between student committees, USCRI Mexico staff, and other stakeholders, ensuring effective collaboration and information sharing.
- Create audiovisual documentation of events with student committees, highlighting their achievements and impact.
- Maintain biweekly meetings with student committees, providing guidance and support to ensure their success.
- Organize committee meetings, leadership meetings, intercultural mobility weeks, and other events as required by the program.
- Elaborate annual, in-person, and virtual capacity building workshops for new recruits to the student committees.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; Master's degree in business, social services administration, non-profit management, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of one year of work or collaboration with student or civil society organizations, universities, international or government organizations regarding migration, human rights, or vulnerable populations.
- Experience in group management, leadership groups, and/or student associations.
- Experience in event organization, budget management, and migration-related themes.
- Demonstrated commitment to humanitarian response, for refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and/or other vulnerable populations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to government funders, donors, clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and experience, multicultural staff, community partners, and volunteers.
- Exceptional time management, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, financial systems, and database programs.
- Commitment to USCRI's values, including demonstration of respect for others and appreciation of a multicultural workplace.
- Must pass a criminal background check and other screening requirements.
- Satisfactory completion of USCRI's Orientation and Training.
- Complete additional training as identified by supervisor or Human Resources.
