The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a distributed team of engineers across various time zones, ensuring the timely delivery of core and specialized Ubuntu kernels.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Lead a distributed team of engineers in your time zone, providing coaching, mentoring, and feedback to help them grow and develop as professionals.
- Support the delivery of high-quality Ubuntu kernels, ensuring strict quality and reliability standards are met.
- Oversee commercial engagements that require custom kernel engineering, working closely with customers and partners to deliver tailored solutions.
- Engage with other teams at Canonical, the open source community, and commercial partners to drive innovation and collaboration.
- Travel globally 2-3 times a year for internal and external engineering events.
**Requirements**
- Significant programming experience in C, with Python, Golang, or other like languages also highly regarded.
- Substantial experience with Linux kernel internals and concepts, including a solid understanding of Linux kernel development principles.
- Demonstrated experience managing or leading a team of software engineers, with a proven track record of success.
- Contributed to an open source project in the past, demonstrating a commitment to community-driven development.
- Understanding of agile software development methodologies and the ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
