Job Title: HS Code Classification Specialist

The HS Code Classification Specialist, Global Trade Compliance, plays a crucial role in supporting the Customs Harmonized System (HS) Code activities for all Sensata legal entities. This role is responsible for preventing HS code disputes and resolving HS code issues that may result in cross-border delays.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with Global Trade Compliance, Engineers, Logistics, Customer Service, and Sourcing teams to ensure compliance.
  • Deploy the global HS code classification and review process for all Sensata legal entities.
  • Maintain the Global HS master database with import duty rates and assign HS Codes by individual entities and by country in ERP.
  • Support logistics, procurement, and other relevant teams in resolving HS code issues with Customs.
  • Monitor Tariff code-related rulings updates in operating countries and work out the impact on business.
  • Develop and deploy training linked to HS code classification and assist in preparing training materials.
  • Assist in conducting internal reviews to identify HS classification risks and develop corrective action plans.
Requirements:
  • Sound knowledge of the HS General Rules of classification and experience with assigning and maintaining tariff codes in ERP systems.
  • Experience in HS code audit and disputes management and defense with Customs challenges.
  • Knowledge of consulting specific HS codes by country, especially US, Mexico, China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Bulgaria, and EU.
  • Knowledge of Country of Origin and Free Trade Agreements.
  • Engineering background and ability to interpret technical drawings is a plus.
  • A team player with ability to work independently.
  • Confident, ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Business focused, highly detail-oriented/analytical, and adaptive to change.
  • Works well under pressure and with the ability to set priorities, drives actions until complete, quality-oriented approach of work.
  • Experience in multinational companies or Customs brokers is a plus.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • ERP, especially Oracle user experience is a plus.
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Trade, licensed customs broker, or equivalent qualification.
  • 2-3 years or more of HS classification background in a fast-paced industry or Customs Broker.
