About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Principal Investment Officer to lead our business development efforts in the Manufacturing sector in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and leading the business development strategy and efforts for the Manufacturing sector in LAC, with a focus on decarbonization, circular economy, productivity, and sustainable value chains.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive business development strategy for the Manufacturing sector in LAC, aligned with the World Bank Group's mission and goals.
  • Collaborate with the Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services (MAS) team and other stakeholders to identify and pursue investment opportunities in the Manufacturing sector.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends and opportunities in the Manufacturing sector, and develop strategies to capitalize on these opportunities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, business partners, and government officials, to promote the World Bank Group's investment products and services.
  • Develop and manage a pipeline of investment opportunities in the Manufacturing sector, and work with the MAS team to structure and close investments.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to clients and business partners to help them develop and implement sustainable and profitable business strategies.
  • Contribute to the development of the World Bank Group's sector strategies and policies, and provide input on the design and implementation of investment products and services.
  • Work closely with the MAS team to identify and pursue opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing with other World Bank Group units and external partners.
Requirements
  • MBA in Finance or equivalent degree, and a minimum of 12 to 15 years of relevant professional experience in finance, with a proven track record of sourcing, structuring, and closing investments.
  • Existing relationships and credibility across a broad range of manufacturing, agribusiness, and services industry sectors, with knowledge of manufacturing sectors preferred.
  • Deep understanding of the challenges of investing in emerging markets, and a proven track record of working in these markets.
  • Understanding of, and interest in, development impact and the World Bank Group's mission.
  • Proven track record in business development and portfolio management, including developing and maintaining strategic client relationships.
  • Excellent financial and credit skills, with demonstrated ability to structure a variety of complex financial instruments (debt and equity).
  • Experience of working with multilateral agencies, and a strong understanding of their investment products and services.
  • Robust analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to identify issues and present creative and practical solutions.
  • Sound business judgment, with ability to identify potential business partners and develop strategies to capitalize on opportunities.
  • Highest standards of transparency and integrity, with ability to interact directly and independently with senior management of potential clients, business partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work successfully in multicultural teams and across boundaries, with excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Candidates with fluency in either Spanish or Portuguese preferred.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, with ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
