Position Overview

The Global Trade Compliance Specialist will be responsible for overseeing our IMMEX program, ensuring compliance with Mexican Customs Law and Regulations for import and export operations, fixed asset importations, and inventory balances for temporary imported goods.

This role requires a deep understanding of the company's bill of materials and SAP units of measure, conversion factors, and their relationship. This expertise is crucial when reviewing or auditing the customs database and backflush process, which is essential for IMMEX companies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serving as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on IMMEX and MX Customs Law and regulations
  • Maintaining IMMEX inventory control within required timeframes and presenting timely backflush reports
  • Generating and monitoring KPIs related to duties, taxes, cross-border performance, carrier hub on-time performance, MX/US customs inspections, etc.
  • Liaising with HD Corporate Customs on CF-28 requirements
  • Working with HD Corporate Customs to review and challenge classification codes, descriptions, duty waiver programs for each PCN listed on the master component file
  • Collaborating with the CTPAT/OEA lead to maintain compliance under both customs programs
  • Supporting the CIVA renewal process
  • Performing annual Revision en Origen and IMMEX reports
  • Liaising with marketing and engineering departments for new product introductions, attending relevant meetings to provide insight on MX customs compliance and informing the import-export team about new developments
  • Maintaining record-keeping requirements set forth by CBP and MX Customs
  • Serving as the primary point of contact with MX/US customs brokers regarding operations
  • Working with the MX Customs Compliance Lead to maintain up-to-date SOPs and execute operational plans
  • Performing USMCA origin certification analysis for new products
  • Coaching and training team members according to their responsibilities and empowering those ready for further responsibilities
  • Reviewing and approving updates to the customs compliance database
  • Responsible for all IMMEX permit requests to SAT (R8, PROFEPA, etc.) initiated by the import-export coordinator or import-export specialist
  • Collaborating with the local finance team on PECE issues and month-end financial reporting, aligning brokerage and DataStage reports on paid amounts vs invoiced. Generating and maintaining the import-export operations report for management
  • Processing the annual Cost Reconciliation report with CBP, working with the finance department and corporate customs team
  • Representing the company during Mexican customs audits
  • Evaluating and maintaining NOM or marking requirements
  • Other activities assigned by the International Logistics Leader

Requirements

Reports to: International Logistics leader

Bachelor's Degree: Comercio Exterior y Aduanas, LAE, or similar

Experience requirements: 8 years

English level: 90%

Skills: SAP (desired), MS Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint) use of an inventory control software
