About the Role

**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plant Head to lead our steel manufacturing operations in East Africa. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Bar Mill, Tube Mill, and Wire Mill, ensuring smooth and efficient production processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operations Management: Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the Bar Mill, Tube Mill, and Wire Mill to ensure smooth and efficient production processes.
  • Production Planning: Develop and implement production plans and schedules to optimize output while meeting customer demands and quality standards.
  • Quality Control: Establish and enforce quality control measures to ensure that the produced steel products meet industry standards and customer specifications.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, environmental standards, and legal requirements within the plant.
  • Maintenance and Reliability: Collaborate with the maintenance department to ensure timely maintenance and repair of equipment, minimizing downtime and optimizing production efficiency.
  • Budget and Cost Management: Develop and manage budgets for the plant's operations, including expenditures for equipment, maintenance, labor, and other resources.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage a diverse team of employees, including supervisors, engineers, technicians, and operators.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for process improvement and operational efficiency enhancements.

Requirements

  • Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in Engineering. An advanced degree or relevant certifications can be beneficial.
  • Experience: Significant experience in steel manufacturing operations and good knowledge of SMS, AOD including hands-on experience in bar mills, tube mills, and wire mills. Previous experience in a managerial or leadership role is essential.
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of steel manufacturing processes, equipment, and technologies. Familiarity with industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations is crucial.
  • Leadership and Communication Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential to effectively manage teams, collaborate with various departments, and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving: The ability to analyze complex situations, identify root causes of issues, and implement effective solutions is critical in maintaining efficient operations.
  • Strategic Thinking: Plant Heads need to develop and execute long-term strategies to achieve production targets, improve operational efficiency, and stay competitive in the industry.
  • Business Acumen: Understanding of budget management, cost control, and financial performance to ensure the plant's profitability and sustainability.
  • Change Management: The steel industry is evolving, and the ability to adapt to technological advancements and industry trends is crucial for sustained success.
