About the Job

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Paint Development Engineer to join our team at KI Industries. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in managing part design, tooling development, and painting activities for plastic injection molded highly decorative parts. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure compliance with our quality standards and to contribute to the enhancement of product quality and innovation in our industry.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Manage and promote the department's key performance indicators (KPIs) and objectives, and promote KPIs of KI México.
  2. Oversee the implementation of new paint processes within our paint lines.
  3. Organize capacity information on our paint lines for management reporting.
  4. Propose paint line optimizations for future capacity growth.
  5. Monitor paint quality through inspections, data analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  6. Work with UV paint application.
  7. Specify requirements for a new paint line while working with the manufacturing team on implementation.
  8. Program Fanuc Paintmate robots for both painting operation and material movement operations.
  9. Maintain and promote the implementation of 5S in our manufacturing plants.
  10. Participate as a key member of RFQ/Team Feasibility Review meetings, as well as DFM (design for manufacturing) meetings.
  11. Promote the use of best practices when designing paint fixtures and masks.
  12. Advise management on new developments that may affect profitability, schedule, costs, customer relationships, and/or interdivisional relationships.
  13. Prepare and present reports on paint department performance and cost metrics.
  14. Work with QA on tooling subcontractor facility surveys and manufacturing processes to ensure ability to meet quality control and technical requirements.
  15. Proficiency in reading prints, making correction recommendations, and measurements methods.

Requirements

  1. 8+ years of experience in a similar position.
  2. Fluent in Spanish and English.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
  4. Advanced skills in CAD, SolidWorks, and PTC CREO.
  5. Comprehensive understanding of tool design principles.
  6. Experience in Painting Processes.
  7. Thorough theoretical and practical knowledge of engineering resins and injection molding processes, including conventional gas assist.
  8. Demonstrated proficiency in identifying and addressing various plastic materials and their painting requirements.
  9. Familiarity with effective 8D problem-solving techniques.
  10. Ability to interpret GD&T, part geometry, and recommend design modifications to optimize part molding processes.
  11. Capable of determining optimal gating methods, cooling requirements, estimated cycle time, secondary operations, and packaging needs.
  12. Experience in designing experiments and conducting DOE, with proficiency in follow-up capability studies and measurement methods.
  13. Knowledgeable about mold construction techniques, different tool steel variables, and proficient in recommending mold correction procedures for tool enhancement.
  14. Skilled in machine setups, starts and stops, mold care, and vigilant process monitoring.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
