The Bookkeeping & Payroll Manager will oversee payroll operations and support high-quality bookkeeping services for both internal operations and a portfolio of client accounts. This role is payroll-focused, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing for 30+ client payrolls, while supporting internal financial reporting and select reconciliations when escalations arise.

What You'll Do

Payroll Management (Primary Focus)Manage payroll for 30+ client accountsEnsure payroll compliance (IRS, EDD, state agencies)Handle payroll audits, notices, and bankruptciesApprove internal payroll, contractors, and time trackingAct as an escalation point for payroll issuesBookkeeping OversightOversee client bookkeeping and reconciliationsReview reconciliations only when escalatedEnsure consistent coding and documentationSupport client onboardingInternal Financial SupportRun monthly internal P&L and cash flow reportsTrack billing, profitability, and budgetsSupport year-end and tax season preparationReporting & Quality ControlReview client financial reportsAnalyze trends and flag irregularitiesMaintain audit-ready documentationTeam CollaborationSupport and guide the bookkeeping and payroll staffHost weekly check-insProvide technical guidance and best practicesProcess ImprovementStreamline workflowsImprove systems and integrationsSupport automation initiatives

What You Need

Payroll management experience (multi-client preferred)Strong bookkeeping and reconciliation knowledgePayroll compliance expertiseAudit and agency correspondence experienceStrong attention to detail and organization
