About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join our growing finance team. This role is a key partner to the Director of Finance and is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations while ensuring accuracy, accountability, and strong financial controls. This position is 100% remote and supports an accounting team based in British Columbia, Canada.

This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing AR, AP, payroll, cost control, and reporting. The successful candidate will play a critical role in strengthening processes, improving data integrity, and supporting leadership with reliable financial information.

This position offers a clear growth path to a Controller role within 12–18 months for a high-performing candidate who demonstrates strong ownership, leadership, and strategic thinking.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee accurate and timely month-end and year-end close
  • Supervise, coach, and support accounting team members (AR, AP, payroll, reporting)
  • Strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, and SOPs
  • Oversee accounts receivable, including collections across business units
  • Manage balance sheet reconciliations and support tax remittances
  • Ensure reporting accuracy, data integrity, and consistency—no surprises
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and re-forecasting activities
  • Partner with operational leaders to explain financial results and resolve discrepancies
  • Support implementation of new systems (PO systems, inventory, HRIS/payroll)
  • Step in hands-on when needed to ensure continuity in payroll, AP, or AR
  • Support cost-control initiatives, process improvements, and system rollouts
  • Partner with the Director of Finance on audits and ad-hoc financial projectsc

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Prior experience managing or mentoring accounting staff
  • Strong understanding of AR, AP, payroll, and month-end close
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with accounting systems/ERPs
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both finance and operations teams
  • Experience supporting process improvement and system implementations
  • CPA or equivalent certification is an asset (not required)
