About The Role
The Engineering Manager leads and develops the engineering organization, ensuring effective execution of new product introduction (NPI) processes and overseeing engineering cost reduction projects. The role is responsible for implementing engineering change requests (ECRs) to improve product quality and efficiency while reducing costs. The manager oversees product quality, performance, and sustainability to maintain competitiveness, drives continuous improvement in manufacturing, quality, and cost goals, and analyzes capacity and line balancing to maximize resource utilization and production efficiency.
Key responsibilities include leading Lean Teams to enhance line efficiency and throughput, analyzing technology to maintain a state-of-the-art facility capable of multi-product handling with minimal changeovers and investment, and managing technical documentation such as TDS, MSDS, machinery manuals, and product literature. The manager oversees capital expenditure (Capex) proposals aimed at achieving high impact with low investment, closely monitors BOM costs, and promotes ISO 9001:2015 standards and plant certification documentation.
Additional duties involve delivering training as needed, analyzing and controlling SMT and TH processes to prevent line stops and meet quality and OEE metrics, and overseeing machine and process setup for SMT, TH, and assembly line testers. The role provides functional support to product development, sourcing, and manufacturing, ensuring smooth workflows, resource planning, and compliance with corporate standards and quality systems. The position also manages departmental staff, resources, budget, and overall performance.
This position is onsite and is located in our manufacturing plant in Chihuahua and reports to the plant manager.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage engineering teams (25–35 engineers or as organizationally defined).
- Develop, implement, and communicate departmental plans aligned with corporate strategy.
- Set objectives for engineering staff, evaluate performance, mentor, and oversee professional development.
- Ensure staff complete required training and maintain high performance standards.
- Maintain a positive work environment and reinforce company programs (e.g., 5S +1, sustainability initiatives).
- Oversees ECR's implementation
- Ensure procedures, work instructions, forms and records are controlled, current and effectively implemented across all departments.
- Ensure Set Up sheets are created, applied, recorded with product performance validations
- Analize, define, develop, implement, validate Poka Yoke systems to robust Quality at the source
- Establish, own, and continuously improve the NPI process ensuring all project goals are well defined and achieved.
- Coordinate engineering activities and manage multiple simultaneous projects.
- Ensure projects meet milestones for product design, validation, sample builds, FAR, UL approvals, pilot runs, and release to manufacturing
- Monitor, tracks and seeks to meet SOP dates and milestones.
- Monitor KPIs and report monthly performance metrics.
- Review, write, and amend technical product specifications.
- Approve design stages and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and cost standards.
- Provide engineering leadership for product development activities across mechanical, electrical, electronic, embedded software, and manufacturing disciplines.
- Identify and resolve parts obsolescence issues and collaborate on technical solutions.
- Ensure proper validation of new, transferred, or modified parts.
- Use of Statistical (SPC) tools to analyze, improve, modify products and its components to eliminate Quality problems, improve efficiency, eliminate inspections, and reduce manning.

- Work closely with Product Development, Sourcing, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to ensure smooth integration of engineering activities.
- Liaise with corporate engineering groups and sister plants.
- Support transitions to manufacturing and ensure proper release of products.
- Improve workflow with other departments to streamline operations and enhance overall efficiency.
- Promotes lessons learned, shares improvements and seeks for collaboration with sister plants to create benchmark
- Manage engineering facilities, tools, statistical analysis, and other software to enhance departmental capabilities.
- Plan engineering budgets and control departmental running costs.
- Verify and maintain current costing systems.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum 5–8 years' experience in engineering or manufacturing electronic operations. (SMT, TH, Box Build)
- 3–4 years in an engineering management or supervisory role.
- Experience with NPI processes, product development, and manufacturing transitions.
- APQP experience required
- Experience with digital/analog electronics, embedded systems, mechanical systems, PCBA, box build, molding, and metal processing
Qualifications
- Strong communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven leadership abilities with experience managing professional staff.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, Red "X" and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong English proficiency; bilingual English/Spanish preferred for specific locations.
- Understanding of patent processes and technical documentation.
- Hands-on approach and ability to work under pressure.
