The American School Foundation, A.C. is seeking a passionate and dedicated Upper School Math Teacher to join our dynamic faculty. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of current pedagogy, adolescent development, a love for mathematics, and a commitment to creating a positive and engaging learning environment for all students.

The successful applicant will feel comfortable teaching high school students and facilitating creative opportunities for them to flourish and grow. In addition, a successful applicant is able to demonstrate the real-world application of mathematics, foster creative problem-solving skills, and support the development of critical and creative thinking skills. The educator in this role will promote collaborative practices, encouraging respect for various viewpoints and cultivating a sense of responsibility within local and global contexts through education.

Applicants should possess not only a love of teaching math but should also express enthusiasm for engaging with students in the high school years. The ideal candidate is an inquisitive and creative educator who inspires others through optimism, flexibility, and teamwork. Teachers with a background in STEM, experience with high school students, or a background in university teaching are all encouraged to apply.

  • Enjoy working within a vibrant and collaborative school with students, colleagues, the administrative team, parents, and the broader school community,
  • Connect and feel at ease with upper school students,
  • Be comfortable working with students to develop critical thinking skills, conceptual understandings, and real world applications through a rigorous mathematics curriculum,
  • Feel at ease teaching math curriculum up and through the level of Calculus,
  • Design and facilitate imaginative, rigorous, and empowering lesson plans and assessments that are culturally competent, student-centered, and thought-provoking,
  • Have intellectual curiosity and a desire to spark a love of learning in students,
  • Have successful experience in working with culturally diverse students, teachers, families, and communities,
  • Have a genuine appreciation of adolescents, a sense of humor, and the ability to work well within a collaborative environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Math, Education or a related subject
  • Master's Degree in Math, Education or related subject preferred
  • Two years of experience in a similar teaching role
  • Experience with IB, either in the Diploma Programme or the Middle Years Programme is not required but strongly preferred
  • Fluent level written and spoken English (conversational Spanish preferred, but not required)
