Billing Specialist

**Key Responsibilities**:
- Process and manage medical billing and insurance claims in accordance with U.S. healthcare standards.
- Submit claims via Athena and follow up on denied or unpaid claims.
- Work directly with insurance providers to resolve billing discrepancies and delays.
- Ensure accurate patient account information, verify insurance, and update billing records.
- Maintain compliance with healthcare billing regulations and HIPAA guidelines.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to improve billing processes.
- Prepare billing and collections reports as needed.
- Respond professionally to patient inquiries related to billing.
**Requirements**:
- 3-6 years of experience in U.S. medical billing.
- Strong understanding of the U.S. healthcare system and insurance procedures.
- Experience using Athenahealth (Athena) billing system is required.
- Previous billing experience with claims posting, remittance processing, payment posting, billing denials, etc
- Excellent English communication skills (written and spoken).
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to handle confidential information.
- Comfortable working a fixed schedule: 40hr work week that fits into the CST timezone (8-5 or 9 -6).
**Nice to Have**:
- Experience with U.S.based medical clinics or healthcare providers.
- Familiarity with other billing platforms (e.g., Kareo, AdvancedMD).
- Previous experience working with remote, LATAM-based teams.
