Purpose of the Position
The Associate Director of Development II is responsible for managing a portfolio and building strong relationships with prospects/donors in Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize to support TNC's work in Latin America. They will be responsible for managing a portfolio of prospects and donors and crafting and carrying out direct asks to meet funding needs. The ADoD II will develop a referral network and may manage formal and/or informal networks of volunteers. They understand and apply complex principles of developing donor strategies. They can discuss assets and listen for opportunities for gifts.
The ADoD II provides opportunities for donors to contribute in a meaningful way to the sustainable development of Latin America. They involve and engage appropriate partners inside and outside the organization to effectively develop donor strategies, engage prospects, and craft proposals for support. They can feature the programs of the Conservancy in detailed terms. They will be required to use the Conservancy’s donor database.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of 60 – 100 major and principal gift level donors. Annual fundraising goal of $1,000,000 from directly managed prospects/donors.
- Lead development of network and cultivation of donors in assigned countries, develop fundraising strategy and plan to reach goals.
- Engage and collaborate with conservation staff, country directors, volunteers, and other development staff to ensure proposals for support are meeting TNC’s highest level needs.
- Work independently and in supervisor’s stead as needed, exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
- Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
- Ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements.
- Manage and implement multiple projects, directing work of staff, managing budget, and setting deadlines.
- May direct or participate in negotiations for complex, high profile or sensitive agreements.
- Persuasively convey the mission of TNC to diverse groups who are important to the organization’s overall prosperity.
- Travel frequently and on short notice, work flexible hours as needed.
Requirements and Competences to Work with Us
Education
- Bachelor's degree in International Relations, Business, Communications, Marketing, Environmental Sciences, or related fields.
Experience
- At least 6 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or business development, preferably in the non-profit sector.
- Proven success in managing donor portfolios, including soliciting and closing gifts over $50,000.
- Experience with philanthropic practices in Latin America is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
- Fluent in both English and Spanish (oral and written).
- Proficient in donor management software and CRM systems.
- Strong storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex projects into clear, inspiring messages.
