A Linux Administrator is responsible for maintaining and managing the Linux operating system infrastructure for an organization. The job involves setting up and configuring Linux servers, installing and upgrading software, managing users and permissions, monitoring system performance, troubleshooting issues, and implementing security measures.The Linux Administrator will typically work in a team with other IT professionals, including network administrators, database administrators, and software developers, to ensure that the Linux environment is stable, secure, and up-to-date.Some of the specific responsibilities of a Linux Administrator may include:- Installing and configuring Linux servers and related hardware and software components- Managing system updates, patches, and upgrades- Monitoring system performance and addressing issues to ensure high availability- Troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software issues- Managing user accounts and permissions- Configuring and maintaining security measures, such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems- Implementing backup and disaster recovery procedures- Providing technical support to users and other IT staff- Documenting system configurations and proceduresIn order to be successful in this role, a Linux Administrator should have a strong understanding of Linux operating systems, networking, and security principles. They should be able to work independently as well as in a team environment, and possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field is usually required, as well as relevant professional certifications such as CompTIA Linux+, Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), or Certified Linux Administrator (CLA).Pay: From $54,533.04 per month
