Project Coordinator

Ciudad de México Ajah A tiempo completo

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement. It is also an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world through radical generosity.

One of GivingTuesday’s key initiatives is The GivingTuesday Data Commons , which provides to the social sector what the commercial sector has long benefitted from: big data to drive better decision-making, build a more resilient social sector, and accelerate equitable social innovation.

With hundreds of collaborators and 50 global data labs, the Data Commons is the largest philanthropic data collaborative effort in the social sector and is the only initiative focused on collecting and analyzing individual giving behavior of all types.

In pursuit of the goals and expansion of the data commons, GivingTuesday partners with key organizations to leverage their expertise to manage and lead different aspects of the work. These data & technology partners (Ajah, With Intent) manage staff, projects, and ongoing functions for the data commons with dedicated staff embedded in GivingTuesday in those capacities in cross-functional roles. This role is one of these positions - managed by our partner organizations but embedded in GivingTuesday’s Data Commons team.

The GivingTuesday Data Commons is looking for a Project Coordinator who will support our Partnerships Team in their efforts to continue expanding our network of global partners including: academic researchers, organizational leaders, policy makers, and social sector professionals.

About the Partnerships Team

Our Partnerships team manages, develops, and drives the GivingTuesday Data Commons’ research agenda by partnering with universities, industry leaders, giving platforms, and policy makers worldwide.

Our Academic Research Collaborative seeks to share thought leadership and data on how to measure and grow generosity through: support for academic conferences, graduate student fellowships, and expanding research collaborations.

Our Working Groups create a shared approach to research, allowing academics, data scientists, giving platforms, and practitioners to collaborate on our core research agenda .

You can find further descriptions of some of our Working Groups and Research Agenda at

About this Position

We are looking for a Project Coordinator who will provide administrative and project management support to our Partnerships Team. This position will focus on tracking the priorities, deliverables, and timelines for our Partnership Team projects. The work will span a range of collaborative projects related to the social good, with leaders in the academic, technology, non-profit and international development sectors.

Reporting directly to the Academic Research Partnerships Manager and Partnerships Manager, and providing additional support to the Director of Research, you will provide assistance in the areas of project management, administration, communications, and marketing for the team. Engaging with a diverse group of stakeholders (organizational leaders, academics, policy makers, social sector professionals, etc.) you will build new relationships and partnerships, and create opportunities for people to come together towards common research goals (see our Research Agenda above).

This position will involve a significant amount of written communication. The ideal candidate will have the ability to communicate within varied contexts, able to switch comfortably between organizing and promoting meetings, taking notes, summarizing research, drafting proposals and outlining project steps.

You will be successful in this role if you can easily grasp the big picture of GivingTuesday’s Academic and Partnerships goals and GivingTuesday Data Commons’ Research Agenda, while also keeping an eye on the finer details of the administration of the project - including our contact management system, our convenings, our summer fellowships, and event and conference attendance and logistics.

Activities & accountabilities

In this role, we will expect you to:
  • Provide broad administrative support to the partnerships team, including project management support
  • Coordinate key Partnerships activities, such as the GivingTuesday Data Commons fellowships, GivingTuesday’s Global Hubs, GivingTuesday Data Commonds convenings and various partner projects and external engagements
  • Draft a variety of internal- and external-facing documents, including project briefs and proposals, working group convening notes, conference presentations, internal reports, and other documentation
  • Coordinate, curate and update our contact management system (from Working Group convenings, Partnerships activities, Academic conferences, and so on)
  • Build and execute outreach plans for Data Commons partnerships, including newsletters, Working Group convening invitations, conference participation)
  • Track and manage timelines for Partnerships initiatives and conduct desk research (Google Scholar, connected papers, etc.) for key research topics
  • Support fundraising activities including, managing timelines for submitting funding proposals and applications and tracking funder conversations
  • Coordinate and manage conference attendance, including some aspects of travel logistics
  • Manage the partnerships email and respond to common questions over email

This is a learning position - the Project Coordinator is expected to rapidly learn and incorporate new skills, and advance in the organization - if successful - to independently lead partnerships projects and activities.

Skills

You will be a good fit if you are:

  • Fluent in English, written and spoken
  • Comfortable working independently and remotely
  • Specifically proficient with Google Workspace, Asana, Slack, Zoom, Powerpoint, Airtable, Mailchimp and Neon. Able to swiftly learn other technology tools as needed.
  • Excellent at written communication: able to effectively and efficiently write briefs, summarize research, draw up meeting notes, and draft proposals.
  • Experienced or interested in academic research
  • Experienced in coordinating virtual events, webinars, and/or convenings
  • Able to identify when you need clarity while working in ambiguity
  • Comfortable both taking initiative and providing support depending on the situation
  • Able to provide a keen eye for detail, strong administrative skills, and the ability to anticipate and manage resources and time available in a small team
  • Experienced and/or educated in management, communications, project management, International Development or another relevant field.
  • Passionate about philanthropy, the social sector, and being a force for good in the world.
