The Training, Demo and Consulting Team (TDC) delivers SAP product systems internally for the Pre-sales, Education, and Consulting business units. We are a global team with a 5x24 follow the-sun-support model. We adapt, innovate, and simplify to empower excellence and agility in SAP. We specialize in mission-critical revenue generating training and leading-edge demo systems.
We are looking for a Virtualization Infrastructure Specialist to augment our efforts to further improve and streamline our virtual machine processes and operations. Your primary goal will be to operate and maintain our SAP Learning Cloud (SLC) Cloud and SAP Demo Experience (SDE) Cloud virtualization infrastructure platforms and identify potential improvements and simplification of our existing processes and infrastructure. You will have the opportunity to directly influence, shape or build innovative automation scenarios to achieve operational excellence. You should have a hands-on mentality and a natural curiosity to learn new technologies.
EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS:
You are expected to:
- Be primarily responsible for virtualization infrastructure operations and maintenance.
- Consult with our internal Lines of Business on all matters related to SLC operations, SDE operations and on-going maintenance.
- Ensure that all relevant processes, tasks and responsibilities are documented accordingly to prevailing guidelines.
- Resolve complex issues within own area of expertise and support others in resolving issues.
- Show initiative and drive topics to resolution with a high degree of quality, speed, reliability, and efficiency.
- Lead small projects or project workstreams.
- Perform knowledge transfer to other locations when required.
- Willingness to take over weekend work and on-call duty.
- Continuously surface automation opportunities and contribute to eventual realization (e.g. code development)
- Continuously surface process improvement opportunities and contribute to eventual realization (e.g. process simplification)
- Are goal-oriented and a self-starter. Have a curiosity for exploring new technologies and new ways of getting tasks done.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
Required:
- Diploma/degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Minimum 2+ years of running/administrating virtualization solutions.
- Very good knowledge of VMware virtualization products (especially vCenter) and preferably VMware vCloud Director.
- Experience in at least one hyperscaler (e.g. AWS, GCP, MS Azure, etc) is a plus but not required
- Very good knowledge in the areas of server virtualization infrastructure, cloud computing, solution automation/integration and ability to analyze complex system setups with experience working in large-scale datacenter/cloud/network environments.
- Experience in Python, GitHub, Jira, etc. are very helpful
- Experience in server-side scripting and automation code development (e.g. Python).
- Very good knowledge and hands-on experience with Linux and Microsoft Windows Server OS.
- Working knowledge in data networking concepts and technologies.
- Experience in interacting with customers and other teams in daily business as well as during escalations.
- Strong written and spoken English language skills
- Strong team player and excellent communication skills.
- Reliable, pro-active, open-minded, and diligent.
- Ability to work under time pressure.
- Willingness to work on a global team with colleagues in USA, Germany, and Singapore.
Preferred:
- Project management skills.
- Knowledge on containerization, Kubernetes, Docker, etc.
- Knowledge of prevalent IT operations management tools (e.g. BMC, Jira, etc.).
