Responsibilities


The Opportunity


The R&D Region Scientist is responsible for executing innovation projects for the category in LAB. This person manages deliverables of multi-functional R&D teams, and interacts with business multi-functional teams aiming to develop & implement key projects for the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) & PepsiCo Strategic Plan (PSP).


  • This resource will lead the growth or part of the innovation agenda throughout LAB, with a special focus on Gatorade.
  • The role will the support R&D Category Lead on new strategic innovation and planning as needed.
  • The role of R&D Product Development Sr. Scientist is to deliver and accomplish immediate, mid-term and long-term targets for the Gatorade platform based on Bench Top development activities and protocols, to drive working agenda initiative performance, to plan project execution and lead the initiatives focused to LAB working agenda, by coordination efforts in conjunction with a wide array of stakeholders (cross functional teams): Global R&D platforms, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Packaging Development, Commercialization and Operations, Procurement and Supply Chain, Finance and Marketing.
  • The role will manage business requirements for the LAB organization while guaranteeing product design attributes and ensuring safe, stable and legal product conditions.

Your Impact


As R&D Region Sr Scientist your responsibilities would consist of:


  • To deliver safe, stable, regulation-compliant and correctly targeted products and processes.
  • Deliver executional AOP product innovation in line with marketing strategy and consumer preference from bench top development to scale up trials working together with Field Ready.
  • Keep in strict compliance with stage gate, accolade and NPD processes, and aligning adequate priority assignments to each initiative.
  • Product/Project documentation (FSS) formulae & specification, ingredients specification, label information, nutritional facts & data to support claims.
  • Close interaction with ingredient suppliers (raw material, new technologies, etc.), providing accurate & brief proposals, reviewing and confirming due specifications and establishing a Quality Vendor agreement (COA/COC).
  • Monitor product development process within established schedule and contribute to risk analysis and identification.
  • Participate and account for all protocols used in scale-up of new products and provide support in any new analytical or micro methods linked to product requirements.
  • Search for, evaluate and share information with Support Center NY and other PepsiCo R&D centers on formulae, new raw materials and processes to ensure product innovation in the region.
  • Responsible for validating the labeling information for local product.
  • Close collaboration with Analytical and Microbiology groups to develop raw material specs and processes.

Qualifications


Who Are We Looking For?


Education


  • Food Science / Food Technology / Food Chemist / Chemist Bachelor’s degree or related fields

Professional Experience


  • 3 to 5 years of experience in product development / Manufacturing experience desirable.
  • Experience with beverages a plus
  • Sensory Analysis knowledge and experience a plus.
  • Basic consumer insights understanding.
  • Basic knowledge of Food Safety, GMPs and Quality Systems.

Skills


  • Basic Consumer insights understanding.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate and negotiate effectively across all levels and functions
  • Knowledge of Quality management systems and local and international laws (Codex, FDA Regulations and Mercosur regulations)
  • Strong Project Management Skills
  • Ability to lead and collobrate within cross-functional teams and influence within the team environment
  • Ability to work in an in person and virtual team environment
  • Cultural sensitivity / flexibility in responding to different cultures
  • Good understanding of the category business and application of technical and commercial knowledge during project execution
  • Basic understanding of finance , ideally related to relation to formula development and financial impact
  • Result oriented and able to balance competing priorities without losing momentum and managing uncertainties
  • Self-starter, proactive, and a strategic thinker

  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong knowledge of TSG and overall PEP processes

Languages


  • Fluent in both English and Spanish a must
