Position Applications are now being accepted for the position of Program Activity Manager/ MESA Program Director at San Diego Miramar College, located in the Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch area of San Diego. Hours and days are as assigned, Monday to Saturday, 40 hours per week, with possible day, evening, Saturday, and/or off‑campus responsibilities. The MESA (Math, Engineering Science Achievement Program) Director is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing and overseeing a comprehensive student support program for the college, including but not limited to the various grants and support systems for targeted MESA students. Job Responsibilities Manage MESA Program projects by leading research, reviewing proposals, analyzing data and reports, preparing summaries, narrative analysis and recommendations. Implement assigned project components; establish productivity, quality, customer service standards; assess development; improve efficiency, workflow and deliverables. Coordinate and ensure mandates and requirements are prepared and disseminated, distribute deliverables on time, within budget and at required level of quality; evaluate outcomes as per the project plan. Provide technical expertise and advice to project administrators, teams and members; keep technical knowledge current. Develop and monitor project budget, supervise expenditures and maintain fiscal controls. Serve as liaison with industry, academic professionals and advisory groups to coordinate workshops and research talks. Direct the development/implementation of new instructional methodologies and curriculum; facilitate the curriculum approval process with faculty. Coordinate evaluation services, including assessment, data collection and analysis. Complete and submit activity and budget reports as outlined by the California State Chancellor’s Office. Direct the hiring of MESA Program funded positions, supervise assigned staff and conduct performance evaluations. Oversee acquisition of equipment, software, hardware; develop operating procedures and maintain grant records. Design, develop and disseminate publications to promote grant objectives. Make presentations to faculty, staff, administrators; collaborate with STEM administrators, faculty and staff. Prepare and submit annual performance reports; serve on college committees as requested. Identify and coordinate STEM related faculty training in collaboration with other managers. Maintain awareness of current ideas, research, practices pertaining to area of responsibility through continued study and professional organizations. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field. Three years of increasingly responsible experience working with community college faculty and counselors in a multicultural setting. One year of management experience considered desirable. For academic/educational administrator assignments: either Master’s degree (doctorate preferred) from a regionally accredited institution and one year of formal training, internship or leadership experience related to the assignment, or possession of a lifetime California Community College Chief Administrative Officer Credential and two years of recent management experience at a higher education institution. Desired Qualifications Experience managing large federal or state grant budgets, including preparing, evaluating and directing action plans and submitting accurate, timely reports to funding agencies. Experience working with faculty and/or students in cohort models, especially in STEM. Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff and administrators across departments and programs, including outreach, EOPS, counseling, transfer center, financial aid, institutional research, grant initiatives. Experience with equity‑minded management practices. Problem‑solving, planning contingencies, implementing changes and showing improvements. Leadership experience involving coordination, planning, implementation and evaluation of student support programs. Clear communication skills. Experience creating and maintaining professional community and educational partnerships, including industry advisory boards. Cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds of community college students, faculty and classified professionals.
