**I - The Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights**
**(GI-ESCR)**

Gl-ESCR is a non-governmental organisation that believes transformative change to end endemic problems of economic and social injustice is possible only through a human rights lens.

Since 2011, GI-ESCR has been involved in groundbreaking work that has resulted in critical policy decisions, judicial decisions, and the effective implementation of ESC rights at the national, regional, and global levels. Working closely with local partners, GI-ESCR has achieved pronouncements on protecting women’s rights to land and productive resources and their implementation.

Working closely with partners, GI-ESCR has advanced new frontiers in economic, social and cultural rights. It has played a bridging role in ensuring that human rights advocates have the opportunity and capacity to engage and infuse international human rights spaces with the experiences of rights holders on the ground and partner with movements.

**Our practice**

GI-ESCR is a small and agile organisation. We are constantly looking for innovative ways to advance social and economic justice, gender equality and human dignity. We reach out to people and engage with their diversity, values, and experiences, as much as possible in their languages. We see our work as a cycle, an upward spiral of iterative and cumulative change in which local and global actions influence and benefit each other. We:

- **Gender Perspective**_
- GI-ESCR integrates gender-responsive analysis, practice, and advocacy on women’s rights in its work.
- We amplify women's voices, particularly marginalised and disadvantaged women, in key decision-making spaces and promote women’s meaningful participation in GI-ESCR’s main areas of work, including advocacy.
- We work in cross-constituency networks and social movements to realise women’s ESC rights and environmental justice for women.
- **Economic value perspective and progressive fiscal policies**_
- We propose a post-neoliberal value perspective and catalyse action to achieve it.
- We incorporate value analysis in forming our team and collaborating with partners.

**Our Team**

The GI-ESCR operates in a virtual office, with 12 team members located in Geneva, Switzerland; Nairobi, Kenya; Mexico City, Mexico; Accra, Ghana; Bogota, Colombia; Brussels, Belgium; Buenos Aires, Argentina; London, United Kingdom; Santiago, Chile; and Brasilia, Brazil.

The next Executive Director must be able to work in a trusting environment within an organisation with a virtual office arrangement.

**II - The Position**

**Key Responsibilities**:_**1 - Strategy Development & Initiative Oversight**_
- Deliver a strategic framework which enables GI-ESCR to further its vision and mission.
- Think creatively and strategically about human rights norm development to shape a progressive understanding of the human rights framework with a particular focus on economic, social and cultural rights.
- Build relationships with donors, staff, global partners and social movements.
- **2 - Partnerships**_
- Support the team in working closely with global, regional, national, and local partners, including partners from marginalised communities. This work will require empathy, listening, and learning from the perspectives of our partners on the ground, as well as letting them take the lead in their advocacy while providing advice on human rights and access to human rights mechanisms.
- Create dialogue and awareness of organisational activities and achievements and represent GI-ESCR in human rights fora.
- **3 - Resource Mobilisation**_
- Lead the preparation and implementation of a strategy for resource mobilisation and enhance visibility and reputation for the organisation.
- Work with existing and potential donors to secure a sustainable funding model and consolidate funding relationships with new donors.
