**JOB DUTIES**:

- Coordinates and prioritizes design and product engineering activities in accordance with the business strategies and goals to reduce waste and maintain value to the end user.
- Designs products and components with safety, quality, durability, reliability, value, and assembly as priorities.
- Reviews Bill of Materials for proper routings, materials, structures, costs, and labor for product and packaging designs.
- Create and revise design specifications, material selection, and potential suppliers with regards to product design to meet quality and value requirements.
- Estimates project and product costs, leads assists with project justification, and recommends required materials and tooling.
- Provides support and direction on exception requests for products outside current specifications.
- Facilitates design reviews to discuss concepts and proposed product designs, engaging other functional areas of the business, to gain input regarding product manufacturability and quality and incorporating those inputs into final design.
- Develops engineering solutions for design related customer field complaints.
- Develop and implement cost reduction measures.
- Maintains and controls engineering files, records, and documentation for part and process specifications, drawings, and patents.
- Prepares and issues required reports, summaries, and presentations related to engineering activities.
- Supports packaging engineering by performing routine packaging audits to assure proper materials and methods are employed.
- Interface with purchasing and suppliers to investigate, resolve, and assure specification compliance with supplier quality issues.
- Maintain and organize work area following 5S principles.
- Engaged in continuous improvement initiatives, recognizing process improvement methods to identify root cause, develop solutions, and implement solutions.
- Integrates quality at the source thinking and activities in daily, individual, team and project work.

Experiência y requisitos

Must be flexible with job assignments, able to work independently and well with others (team environment). Must be organized, methodical, quality minded, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work to an established timeline. Position takes direction from local Engineering Manager. Must manage multiple medium or limited scope projects, Must communicate well and properly document results of test procedures, and have knowledge of SWF 5S Program.

Skills Needed:

- Conceptual and detail design skills
- Strong experience with CAD drawing (Solid Works, Auto Cadd)
- Strong experience and knowledge of typical drafting standards
- Strong experience with metal and wood machine tools
- Data collection and management of database.
- Technical writing skills for memos, lab reports, and project updates.
- Strong general math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide, percentages, fractions, metric conversions, algebra, and geometry)
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good analytical and problem solving skills
- Good communication skills, English/Spanish (verbal, written)
- Technical Writing
- General computer skills Excel, MS Word, Lotus Notes, MS Project and Access
- Frontier System inventory (FRN)
- Preparing Samples for Testing and Analysis

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:

- Prefer BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design, preferred Master Degree on Mechanical Engineering.
- Over 5 years in design engineering experience in consumer products related industry.
- Strong experience with new product development and product design role.
- Experience with Lean and Value Engineering methodologies
- Familiarity with the design of injection molded plastic parts, die cast and die stamped metal parts, and molded wood products.
- Black Belt certified preferred
