About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced National Policy Director to join our team at Eco Magazine. As a key member of our organization, you will play a strategic role in shaping our policy agenda and advocating for sustainable fisheries management nationwide in Mexico.

Key Responsibilities
  • Policy Strategy and Management: Develop and implement effective policy strategies to achieve our goals and objectives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including legislators, federal and state officials, scientists, and partner organizations.
  • Policy Proposals and Campaigns: Design and manage legislative and rulemaking campaigns, including advocating for budgetary reforms.
  • Project Management: Manage projects to achieve defined objectives and outcomes, working closely with the project team and partners.
  • Relationship Management: Manage relationships among various parties involved in policy advocacy, including the fishing industry and fisheries agency leadership.
  • Communications Strategy: Develop and implement an effective political communications strategy and capacity.
  • Proposal and Report Writing: Participate in drafting proposals and funder's reports in a timely and efficient manner.
Qualifications
  • Education: Public policy, international affairs, law degree or master's degree in a related field, such as environmental management or business administration with a quantitative focus.
  • Experience: At least ten years of related experience, preferably working in or influencing the legislative process in Mexico. Government experience a plus. Environmental or fisheries-related experience is desirable, but not required.
  • Skills: Proven ability to lead and manage advocacy campaigns, excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work in a multi-tasking and stressful environment, and fluency in Spanish and English.
