Senior Underwriting Support Specialist

Position Overview:

This role is integral to the Underwriting Support career development pathway and may report to a Senior Specialist, Team Leader, or Team Manager within the Underwriting Support Unit. The Senior Underwriting Assistant is an individual contributor expected to enhance their expertise in underwriting support processes, risk assessment, and operational dynamics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage complex accounts while providing technical support to junior staff, operating under moderate supervision.
  • Collaborate with regional underwriters and senior support personnel in processing new and renewal business. Assess submissions for completeness and communicate outstanding items to underwriters for review.
  • Work closely with underwriters and Centers of Excellence to create and implement customized solutions.
  • Identify and address account alerts and conflicts during the submission process.
  • Upon receiving underwriting directives, forward individual lines of business to Shared Services for rating.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in underwriting systems through training and application.
  • Conduct data analysis and prepare necessary documentation, including:
    • Reviewing location data and CAT modeling results for accuracy.
    • Analyzing loss data and financial statements to aid in quote preparation.
    • Facilitating the issuance of quotes, binders, policies, endorsements, and cancellations within set timelines.
    • Requesting individual policy filings as necessary.
    • Preparing policy writing instructions for Shared Services and managing premium billing.
    • Overseeing bureau critiques on assigned accounts and following up with brokers for outstanding information.
    • Preparing documents for reinsurance quotes.
  • Conduct post-issuance policy reviews and document discrepancies for discussion with senior staff or underwriters.
  • Assist underwriters with broker follow-ups on outstanding subjectivities, updating systems as needed.
  • Monitor premium booking and policy issuance to meet line of business metrics, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Apply knowledge of underwriting rules and guidelines to support submission analysis.
  • Communicate account status to management or underwriters to ensure timely policy issuance and premium collection.
  • Maintain accurate and updated files for all accounts in line with internal service standards.
  • Participate in broker or client meetings as requested by underwriting.
  • Consistently achieve service level agreements and metrics regarding volume, accuracy, and quality.

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of relevant insurance experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to navigate multiple proprietary and standard computer systems efficiently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to learn from experiences and adapt to new situations.
  • Proactive client servicing skills to anticipate internal and external client needs.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to identify and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accurate documentation.
