Job Title: Oracle Database Administrator

Corning is a leading technology company that invents life-changing products using materials science. We are seeking an experienced Oracle Database Administrator to join our team.

Job Summary:

  • Leverage technical expertise to provide superior engineering and production support for Oracle Database environments.
  • Drive and participate in efforts to ensure platform stability and maximize database performance.
  • Partner with application owners and teams to understand application and business needs and Service Level Objectives (SLOs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide production support for database environments, working closely with 24/7 support staff.
  • Perform database administration tasks, including installation, configuration, management, patching, and upgrades.
  • Ensure database backup and recovery processes are in place and functioning correctly.
  • Perform database refreshes and monitoring, and provide performance tuning recommendations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and drive improvement efforts related to the database portfolio.
  • Participate in Change Advisory Board and provide guidance on database changes, performing problem resolution for complex issues.
  • Provide off-hours support for critical production issues, as needed.
  • Automate infrastructure components using scripting, coding, and automation tools, such as PowerShell, Microsoft DSC, Chef, Puppet, Ruby, Terraform, or OEM.
  • Stay up-to-date with current and emerging multi-cloud developments, industry trends, and assess opportunities to incorporate new trends and developments into current and future strategies.
  • Collaborate with third-party support teams and application support teams to educate and guide them on steady-state supporting database infrastructure-related technologies.

Requirements:

  • BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience working in IT as an Oracle Database Administrator.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with database technologies, including Oracle RAC, Grid Infrastructure, Oracle Enterprise Manager, and Linux scripting.
  • Knowledge of database/SQL monitoring and performance tuning.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Understanding of data security requirements, such as ITAR, PCI, PHI, HIPAA, NIST, and SOX.
  • Effective leadership, organization, and planning skills, with the ability to handle changing priorities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of on-time delivery within budget, with the ability to drive projects to successful conclusion using influencing tools.
  • Ability to lead international teams across multiple initiatives that span various lines of business, geographic borders, time zones, and cultures.
