About the Role

The Atlantic Council's Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to serve as Assistant Director, Mexico. This role will play a pivotal part in managing and leading the Center's Mexico programming, as well as collaborating with colleagues across the Atlantic Council. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of US-Mexico relations, particularly in the areas of commerce and the US-Mexico border. They will be responsible for advancing the Center's existing Mexico programming, refining the strategic course for the Center's growing Mexico work, and providing expertise on broader economic issues across Latin America.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advance the Center's existing Mexico programming and play a pivotal role in refining the strategic course for the Center's growing Mexico work, focusing on the development of programming and fundraising, in collaboration with Center leadership;
  • Support grant writing, budget development, and financial management;
  • Co-manage grants with external funders, as relevant;
  • Serve as a strategic partner and bridge between international and local stakeholders, including multilateral organizations, financial institutions, international political groups, country representatives, and others;
  • Steward and regularly engage important Center and Council constituencies, such as US and Latin American policymakers, business leaders, and civil society representatives;
  • Coordinate programming and events, including written products, with a particular focus on Mexico and additional programming, as needed;
  • Produce relevant documentation and summary of meetings both for internal record keeping and external knowledge sharing;
  • Oversee programmatic aspects and financial records of the Center's Mexico programming;
  • Brief the Center's leadership on current events in Mexico, as well as other events that may affect the region;
  • Proactively look for potential areas of collaboration within the Center and with other Atlantic Council centers.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, international affairs, or international development;
  • 2-4 years of combined professional experience in international affairs, public policy, and economics;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of political, economic, and social issues in Mexico; experience living, working, or studying in Mexico a plus;
  • At least 2 years of research experience on Mexico issues;
  • At least 2 years of experience in project or event management;
  • 1-2 years of experience working on economic monitoring and impact evaluation;
  • Ability to represent the Atlantic Council to external constituencies, such as senior officials, diplomatic officials, board members, and donors;
  • Proven track record in managing multiple projects simultaneously and a demonstrated ability to work efficiently and collaboratively with both junior-level and senior-level colleagues;
  • Extensive networks and contacts in Latin America, specifically Mexico;
  • Native-level Spanish-language and English-language skills (writing, editing, and oral communications), and superior communication skills;
  • Proven ability to balance multiple tasks in a fluid environment;
  • At least some experience with WordPress, Canva, InDesign, and others to produce and edit visual content such as videos, photos, infographics, and others;
  • At least some experience with Salesforce or a similar grant and database management;
  • Excellent organizational, logistical, and administrative skills;
  • An extensive understanding of Washington policy environment;
  • Expertise in traditional and social media.
