The Role

**Purpose and Accountabilities**: The Contracts Commercial Advisor is a key member of the Trading & Supply Operations team at Shell, responsible for executing commodity contracts that facilitate the purchase and sale of natural gas and power products in Mexico. This role supports the Sales & Origination team by drafting and negotiating commodity contracts, amendments, non-disclosure agreements, natural gas transportation agreements, and reviewing complex transaction confirmations.

Dimensions

The Contracts Commercial Advisor provides commercially focused advice and completes contract negotiations in line with Shell Trading & Supply policies and guidelines. This role requires commercial acumen and is responsible for managing the contract process from initial pre-deal commercial advice to the subsequent drafting, analyzing, negotiation, and dispatch of execution documents.

The Commercial Advisor identifies risks associated with deviations from Shell Energy's standard contract terms and obtains requisite input from internal stakeholders, such as Credit, Finance, Tax, Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance. This role demands a comprehensive knowledge of natural gas and/or power markets in Mexico and the ability to overcome obstacles that may arise during the contract negotiation process.

Skills and Requirements
  • Minimum of five years working experience in a role dedicated to drafting, analyzing, and negotiating commodity purchase/sale contracts in Mexico.
  • A degree in Law, Paralegal Certification, Engineering, Business, or equivalent practical experience working with commodity contracts.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (written and oral) is required.
  • Strong commercial acumen required and the ability to provide excellent support to the Sales and Origination Team by drafting and negotiating commodity contracts that preserve value for Shell, minimize risk, and maintain compliance with Shell policies.
  • Ability to thoroughly explain contractual terms and Shell's position to customers and other internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (Spanish and English).
