About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Staff Engineer - Process Development to join our team at BD. As a key member of our Intelligent Automation team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing process optimization strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce cycle time, and improve product quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with DTO Intelligent Automation leadership and key staff members to develop site-specific Intelligent Automation roadmaps, inclusive of digital solutions, machine learning, and commonality of technical solutions across other sites.
  2. Design and implement process optimization strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce cycle time, and improve product quality, working closely with manufacturing site teams.
  3. Conduct detailed analysis and evaluation of existing manufacturing processes, identifying areas for improvement and recommending appropriate technological solutions.
  4. Develop process concept, project charters, and business justification, risk analysis, feasibility/Proof of Concept, Automation FAT, SAT, and validation.
  5. Manage external contractors and vendors for process development and technology transfer projects.
  6. Collaborate with the DTO team members and other required functions to develop and implement playbooks for implementation and replication of intelligent automation technology solutions.
  7. Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to resolve process-related issues, improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), drive root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive measures when required.
  8. Maintain strong relationships with counterparts in Manufacturing/Operations, business units, Global Integrated Engineering, BD Excellence, Supply Chain, Quality, and Finance, ensuring timely and transparent alignment of strategies and goals.
  9. Provide mentoring and building of engineering capabilities to support the continuous evolution of Intelligent automation technology through skills identification and assessment, capability building, and training of associates, including engineering support organization, site operators, technicians, and engineers.
  10. Intelligent Automation solutions selected are expected to drive value through increased asset utilization, improving OEE, optimizing labor, improving quality, reducing costs, and improving customer satisfaction.
  11. Maintain a high level of scientific and technical knowledge and stay updated on the latest industry trends and best practices.

Requirements:

  1. BS Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing/Process Engineering, Computer Engineering/Software Systems
  2. A minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible engineering experience in manufacturing engineering, automation design and development, technology transfer, assessment of product manufacturability, industrial engineering, and project engineering, preferably in a regulated industry (Medical Device, Pharma, etc) or equivalent.
  3. A minimum of 5 years of experience in Intelligent Automation solutions and digital transformations, including machine learning, vision, and controls engineering, AMRs, cobots/robotics, AI, GenAI, and data analytics.
  4. Strong knowledge of process optimization techniques, lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and statistical analysis.
  5. Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  6. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex process issues.
  7. Strong verbal and written communication skills, enabling the ability to influence decisions based on sound rationale.
  8. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Travel: 25% to 30%

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. MS Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing/Process Engineering, Computer Engineering/Software Systems
  2. Project Management Training and/or Certification
  3. Industry 4.0 Training and/or Certification
  4. Proficient in process analysis, process modeling, and simulation software, and statistical analysis.
  5. Experience with process improvement tools and methodologies such as Kaizen, 5S, and Value Stream Mapping.
  6. Knowledge of automation and control systems, such as SCADA and PLC.
