Purpose of the role

The overall purpose of the role is to bring strong subject matter expertise on the topic of SOX compliance and internal controls to the Mexico market/ LAC region specifically focused around the Go-to-market strategy and commercial practices. This role will support the Management in delivering outstanding control environment, increase control and compliance awareness and coordinate / ensure smooth delivery of internal control procedures. In addition, provide support to Global Controls Assurance team in delivering regional controls assurance activities.

This role will be reporting into the Regional CFO with a strong coordination with/ dotted line to the Global Controls Assurance Head.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • To drive the Risk, Control & Audit compliance agenda starting with Diageo Mexico and eventually supporting the whole of LAC region.
  • To support the Management in delivering best-in-class control environment, increase control and compliance awareness and coordinate / ensure smooth delivery of internal control procedures.
  • Drive continuous process improvement and transformation agenda.
  • Obtain strong understanding of Mexico business across various processes but with initial focus on commercial processes.
  • This would include focus on sales, revenue recognition, trade spend management, marketing, advertising, customer account management, customer account reconciliation, related accounting, accruals and policies.
  • Closely engage with Diageo Mexico customers, sales and marketing teams to ensure they are aligning with applicable Diageo policies. Identify challenges early, update the regional CFO and define and drive practical solutions that ensure a balance between compliance and business enablement.
  • Understand the tools and technologies supporting various processes, evaluate and handle risks embedded within them.
  • Drive assurance agenda for the areas under scope. Define risk and controls targets along with Regional CFO and Global Controls Assurance team, regularly monitor and report on them.
  • Build up a strong key partner relationship with the Senior leaders across the processes and provide regular updates and improved advice on the areas which would need improvement to strengthen the overall control environment.
  • Provide the Business leads with potential areas of opportunities so that they have the necessary time and resources to implement a robust remediation plan for the identified issues.
  • Leverage domain expertise and collaborate with internal leaders to identify new/emerging risks and develop strategies to mitigate the associated risks.
  • Support new business initiatives and projects with a lens of risk, controls and compliance. Ensure that controls and risks are adequately covered during transitions such as change in processes, business strategy change, new technology implementation.
  • Support Investigations in the market with focus on root cause analysis. Monitor all audit and controls deficiencies related to the scope area to ensure timely and effective remediation. Amplify the findings from deficiencies across the region through communications, training etc.
  • Provide support during internal (CARE) and external assurance work (PWC) covering both audits, controls testing and risk management work. Provide updates/inputs to the Controls Assurance Director for the ARC/ AC Reporting.
  • Be an extended part of the Global Controls Assurance team and bring valuable insight which will build positive impact in the market.
  • Develop a team of high potential professionals/managers and build an environment which will set them up for success. Additionally, constantly challenging them with new areas and keep them motivated to work as ‘One team’.
  • Handling people managers and global teams. Mentor and guide the team on all areas of work and personal development.
