General Summary
This role represents the first full level of specialization within the field, utilizing expertise across multiple areas. Responsibilities are carried out within established professional standards and organizational policies. The incumbent will address a variety of challenges where data analysis is essential for evaluating key factors. Accountability for the quality of work delivered by external suppliers is a critical aspect of this position. The role may involve influencing stakeholders beyond the immediate team to achieve objectives and resolve conflicts effectively. Mistakes or failure to meet targets could adversely affect operational performance and schedules. Guidance is primarily provided for unique or complex issues. Leadership of a project team or work group may be required, along with providing mentorship in areas of expertise. Building and maintaining internal and external relationships is vital.
Key Responsibilities
The incumbent will perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Overseeing global or regional responsibilities for high-value commodities, focusing on price/value assessment, product/service negotiations, and contractual terms.
- Formulating and executing procurement strategies for managed commodities, including competitive analysis, supplier evaluation, and pricing strategies.
- Serving as the primary liaison with suppliers for relationship management, contract negotiations, and performance evaluations.
- Ensuring continuity of supply while achieving cost-effective solutions for products and services.
- Leading corporate negotiation teams for commodities, including customer material commitments and pricing analysis.
- Providing strategic direction and performance metrics for cost analysis to senior management.
- Contributing to team development, recruitment, and training initiatives for new hires.
- Guiding negotiations for significant commodities, developing negotiation strategies, and delivering consistent communication to suppliers.
- Engaging frequently with senior executives from leading multinational corporations.
- Managing the global commodity negotiation process to ensure accurate forecasting and pricing.
- Overseeing data management related to market pricing fluctuations and analytical tools.
- Conducting strategic analyses on pricing, market conditions, suppliers, and competitors.
- Acting as a liaison to manage critical shortages and develop strategies for constrained commodities.
- Driving process improvements and leading the development of IT tools to enhance operational efficiency.
- Conducting bid activities for complex and high-visibility projects.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
- In-depth understanding of market conditions for a wide range of strategic commodities, including pricing trends and supply/demand dynamics.
- Familiarity with server management hardware industry.
- Working knowledge of Celestica's global supply chain policies and objectives.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and the ability to learn specialized software related to the department.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation abilities.
- Comprehensive understanding of negotiation practices for commodities.
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and meeting tight deadlines.
- Skills in evaluating, prioritizing, and problem-solving various tasks to ensure timely completion.
Physical Requirements
- Duties are performed in a standard office environment.
- May require prolonged periods of sitting and visual concentration on computer screens.
- Frequent manual tasks, such as data entry, are expected.
- Occasional overnight travel may be necessary.
Experience and Education
- Six to eight years of relevant experience is preferred.
- A bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
