Summary

This position represents the first full level of specialization, applying expertise across multiple areas. The role operates within established professional standards and objectives, addressing diverse challenges where data analysis necessitates evaluation of identifiable factors. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the quality of work delivered by external suppliers as necessary. This role may influence stakeholders beyond the immediate team to achieve objectives and resolve conflicts effectively. Inaccurate decisions or failure to meet targets could adversely affect operational performance and schedules. Guidance is primarily received on unique or complex issues. The individual may lead a project team or work group with some oversight from their supervisor, or provide specialized advice and guidance. Building and maintaining internal and external relationships is crucial.

Detailed Description

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing global or regional responsibilities for strategic and/or high-value commodities, focusing on price/value assessment, product and service negotiations, and terms and conditions.
  • Formulating and executing procurement strategies for managed commodities, including competitive analysis, supplier evaluation, and pricing strategies.
  • Serving as the primary liaison with suppliers for all aspects of relationship management, contract negotiations, and establishing business frameworks for transactions.
  • Ensuring continuity of supply for all products and services while achieving the most cost-effective solutions.
  • Leading corporate negotiation teams for commodity councils and managing customer material commitments through pricing analysis.
  • Providing direction and performance reporting for cost analysis to senior management.
  • Assisting in team development, recruitment, and training plans for new employees, as well as mentoring.
  • Leading negotiations for high-impact commodities, developing negotiation strategies, and ensuring consistent communication with suppliers.
  • Engaging frequently with senior executives from leading multinational companies.
  • Managing the global commodity negotiation process to ensure accurate forecasting and pricing.
  • Overseeing data management for pricing fluctuations and maintaining commodity management systems.
  • Conducting strategic analyses on pricing, market conditions, suppliers, customers, competitors, contracts, and long-term agreements.
  • Acting as a liaison to manage critical shortages and develop strategies for constrained commodities.
  • Driving process improvements and developing IT tools for the group, defining business processes, and implementing new tools.
  • Executing bid activities for sensitive and complex projects.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of market conditions for a wide range of strategic commodities, including pricing, technology, and supply/demand trends.
  • Familiarity with server management hardware industry.
  • Understanding of Celestica's global supply chain, including strategic policies and objectives.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and the ability to learn and utilize various department-specific applications.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation abilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of negotiation practices and methodologies for commodities.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to evaluate, prioritize, and solve a variety of tasks to ensure timely and accurate completion.

Physical Demands

  • Duties are performed in a standard office environment.
  • Responsibilities may require prolonged periods of sitting and sustained visual focus on computer screens or detailed data.
  • Frequent manual movements, such as data entry and using a computer mouse, are necessary.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.

Typical Experience

  • Six to eight years of relevant experience.

Typical Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
