Job Summary

The Higher Education Program Officer - Accompaniment Specialist will be part of the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants' (USCRI) Higher Education for Complementary Education Pathways Program, conducted in its Aguascalientes field office and implemented across Mexico. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing planned and emergency attention to student beneficiaries of USCRI Mexico's higher education complementary pathways program, as well as following up on and accompaniment in the migration-related, medical, academic, and psychosocial areas of the students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement the Accompaniment System: Develop and implement a comprehensive accompaniment system for Habesha Project students, ensuring their needs are met and concerns addressed.
  • Conduct Quarterly Interviews: Conduct regular interviews with students to assess their progress, identify areas of support, and develop strategies for improvement.
  • Draft Reports and Define Actions: Draft individual and quarterly reports on student accompaniment, outlining actions to be taken to address their needs and concerns.
  • Execute and Supervise Actions: Implement and oversee actions outlined in accompaniment reports, ensuring timely and effective support for students.
  • Compile Academic Documents: Gather and compile documents related to students' academic progress, including information from teachers and supervisors.
  • Accompany Students: Provide direct support to students in their migration, academic, and medical processes, as needed.
  • Track Residency and Passport Expiration Dates: Monitor the expiration dates of students' residency permits and passports, ensuring timely renewal or replacement.
  • Respond to Emergency Situations: Provide emergency support to students during or outside of regular working hours, as required.
  • Manage Requests for Funds and Services: Process requests for financial assistance and additional services from students, ensuring timely and effective support.
  • Establish Partnerships: Develop and maintain partnerships with organizations that provide benefits and services to higher education program students.
  • Organize Activities: Plan and implement activities during vacation periods to support students' academic and personal development.
  • Maintain Communication: Establish and maintain regular communication with students, academic coordinators, and other stakeholders to ensure effective support and collaboration.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required; a master's degree in a related field or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Student Organizations: A minimum of two years of work or collaboration with student or civil society organizations, universities, international or government organizations regarding migration, human rights, or vulnerable populations is required.
  • Commitment to Humanitarian Response: A demonstrated commitment to humanitarian response, particularly for refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and other vulnerable populations, is essential.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, are required.
  • Time Management and Attention to Detail: Exceptional time management, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task and meet deadlines are essential.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, financial systems, and database programs is required.
  • Language Skills: Spoken and written Spanish and English are required.
Training and Development
  • USCRI Orientation and Training: Satisfactory completion of USCRI's Orientation and Training is required.
  • Additional Training: Completion of additional training as identified by the supervisor or Human Resources is expected.
Physical Demands
  • Manual Dexterity and Visual Acuity: The ability to use manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity is required.
  • Prolonged Sitting and Standing: Prolonged periods of sitting and standing, as well as sustained visual and mental applications and demands, are expected.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying are required.
